RUMOR MILL

Tuesday - October 25th

Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

AV's system isn't working with these players to date.

A .V.(ery) PATHETIC START
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 11:03:39 AM - October 11, 2013

Coach A.V.'s push forward system worked well with the Sedin twins. Ryan Kelser, Alex Burrows and crew in VAncouver, but so far THESE Rangers just can't play it without looking pathetic. So far this seasons team looks lost, playing with no heart or leadership, and actually looks like a high school team playing in the NHL.  Some of the personnel choices in the roster raised a few eyebrows as veterans such as Arron Asham, Taylor Pyatt, along with rookie Jesper Fast have played over players with speed and better skillsets that were sent down to the AHL in the likes of Chris Kreider, J.T. Miller, and either of the high intensity 4th liners of Michael Haley or Brandon Mashinter(for Ashams role).  The 12 forwards DO NOT mesh well together, let alone with the defense as a 5 man unit at any time on the ice. This team looks totally ill prepared, out of shape, and look like they don't even know each other, let alone the man they are supposed to be covering in the defensive zone coverage. They always to be on the wrong side of the puck and never take away the other teams players stick with their body always giving the other team the inside track on the puck and net.

The Rangers seem to have too many of the same type of players and instead of making a choice between the two, they are both playing on the team. Lets start with Tayolr Pyatt and Brian Boyle. Both are "big and strong" and play the same type of role as a power forward(with the centers as Derek Stepan, Derick Brassard, Brad Richards, and Dominic Moore). The big difference between these two players is that Boyle is the best faceoff man the Rangers have and at least has played a shutdown role before as a Ranger while Pyatt hasn't shown anything since becoming a Ranger. What is it that Glen Sather and A.V. see in him that he should play 3rd line minutes that could easily go to Chris Kreider. Wouldn't the organization be better with the speed of a power forward(almost same exact size of Pyatt) like Kreider forcing the other teams defensemen to move the puck and not to have a "free out" of the zone that they always get with Pyatt in the lineup?

Arron Asham has done what he was put into the lineup to do which is figh,t but that is all he brings to the table. Both he and Derek Dorsett are both middle weights that do a decent job, but is NOT a deterent from crushing Ranger star players as we have already seen in the concussion of Rick Nash and the constant running of Henrik Lundqvist without the other team fearing repercussions of having to pay for it. Especially starting the season out West with BIG and FAST teams, this was a huge mistake by management. Players such as Michael Haley and Brandon Mashinter might not bring a better skillset, but they WILL bring a different attitude and will stand up for their teammates at all timesand make other teams think twice before making that hit . Mashinter brings the same type of game as Pyatt but adds the fighting option.

Rookie Jesper Fast over J.T. Miller is just ass backwards. There is no reason for that at all even with the excuse of "we need to find top 9 minutes for Miller for his growth".  What the hell type of minutes does Fast need? Is he going to be a checking line forward in the NHL? Not by all reports and how the Rangers see him and Fast having to get used to the smaller NHL rinks also.

On Defense, the Rangers have a solid 6 on paper. So far this season, they look like the Keystone cops banging into each other and standing around not picking up the man they are supposed to cover in this new system. They have the same type of players again on the 3rd pairing with John Moore and Michael Del Zotto which makes no sense at all. The Rangers need to dump one of the two of them and get a physical presence out there to protect their goalie and teammates while still being able to make the easy play and breakout. The inability of Dylan McIlrath to progress into this player has really hampered the Rangers this season.

How has Henrik started all the games so far? What has he done to show that he is ready for back to back nights?  I look forward to both The King and the Rangers defense to start working together again and become the solid backstop to a more fluid team up front once they get their act together.

The Rangers need to cut bait with players such as Taylor Pyatt, Arron Asham, and Michael Del Zotto(turnover machine and too much money for a 5/6 dman).  They need to crash the other teams net and not let the goalie see every shot they take while shooting for all 4 corners and not at the goalies chest. Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh,Dan Girardi, Henrik Lundqvist, and the rest need to get their head out of their asses and play with some PRIDE, DETERMINATION, COURAGE, and WILLPOWER that puts the BLUE in the BLUESHIRTS!!! The Rangers need to get their act together soon or their clearly needs to be changes in Rangerland!

With Brad Richards as the Rangers best scorer so far this season, Nash already injured, Carl Hagelin still out for 6 more games at least recovering from his shoulder surgery, Ryan Callahan getting in game shape recovering from his shoulder surgery, Derek Stepan getting into game shape from his selfish holdout( he hasd no bargaining chips and in June I called what he would get a two year bridge contract but I had it at $3.2 per), all new coaches and system, and a season started with a 9 game roadtrip are all distractions, but they are professionals making damn good money that the fans pay, so it's time to pull your big boy pants up and get this season going to make your fans PROUD and play STRONG like the city that they represent!

Let's Go Rangers!!!
