RUMOR MILL

Tuesday - October 25th

Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

Richards in his 3rd season was brought in for a Messier type of role.

Is It Destiny?

The Rangers have reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in the last 2 decades. This Rangers team has alot of the same characteristics of the last team that was lead by Mark Messier that won the 1994 Stanley Cup, the 4th in New York Rangers history by playing like the city they represent of hard working and intense people. When Mark Messier was brought in to the Rangers organization, he was a Cup winner, proven leader that came up big, and to bring the Stanley Cup to New York while Brad Richards was a big free agent signing that is here to do the same thing. I know almost evryone will say there is NO COMPARISON, but just read on and THEN you can call me crazy! Wink

When Mark Messier was brought into the organization in 1991, the Rangers became a legit threat and won the President's Trophy as the best regular season team in the regular season. The Rangers were knocked out that season in the 2nd round of the playoffs. The following year 1992-1993, the Rangers had an off year and didn't even make the playoffs as the Garden Faithful booed Messier and thought that maybe he had lost a step and his better days might be behind him, and maybe the Rangers should get rid of him. Instead, the Garden brass believed in Mark Messier and brought in a coach that was in contrast of the laid back approach that was in New York in Mike Keenan. Keenan changed the mentality of the team with his no-nonsense type of play. YEAR 3 brought a more determined Mark Messier and The New York Rangers were Stanley Cup WINNERS!!!!!!

When Brad Richards was brought into the organization in 2011, the Rangers outbid the Los Angeles Kings to bring in what they thought would be the veteran Stanley Cup Champion that could be the missing piece to get the Rangers over the hump to win Sir Stanley.  In year 1, the Rangers won the Eastern Conference regular season title. The Rangers fell in the 3rd roound of the playoffs in his first year. In year two, Richards fell out of favor with his coach and Rangers fans. While fans of the  New York Rangers were wondering if Richards' career was over, and if he would be bought out in the following summer even though the Rangers made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs that season,  he spent most of the end of the season and playoffs glued to the bench on the 4th line. Instead of buying out Brad Richards, the Rangers brass decided to show confidence in Richards and fired the no-nonsense type coach in John Tortorella and hired a more relaxed approach in coach Alain Vigneault. Year 3 brought in a more dtermined Brad Richards and The New York Rangers will be playing for the Stanley Cup!

So yes, there are many differences like Messier was a proven leader and was brought in to produce goals and assists (and a Hall Of Fame career) while Brad Richards is mainly an assists man and also a quite type leader. Both are the type of players that make a difference and lead in different ways.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!! 12 DOWN ........4 MORE WINS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
