Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

Girardi looking lost so far this season. Day to Day with swelling in his knee.

Burned Out?
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 2:35:49 PM - December 14, 2015

Dan Girardi has been a battler and always in the Rangers lineup giving everything he can for the last 9 years in the Rangers system.  It didn't matter how banged up or injured he was, it seemed like they just duct taped him back together and he would go back out on the ice. He always plays as if he has something to prove as he went undrafted and worked his way up from the ECHL to The World's Most Famous Arena on an Original Six team in Manhattan. It is starting to look as if the beating over the last few seasons are taking it's toll and he has been playing as if he wants to do what is right, but the body just won't allow it at this time. He is clearly in alot of pain which not only affects his physical play, but also his decision making which has been brutal as of late.

The Rangers have just tweeted that he is day to day with knee swelling which makes alot of sense. Over the last almost decade, you would see Girardi jump over the boards whenever the Rangers needed to shut down an opponent or with the game on the line. But now at 31 years old, injuries and father time is starting to take it's toll. He can no longer just have trainer Ramsey work some magic and battle through whatever injury he is trying to fight off. Now at the age of 31, he needs to take a seat in the stands and heal his body so that he can play at 100% as him playing hurt just isn't good enough anymore. Since joining the Rangers NHL club 9 and 1/2 years ago, Girardi has only missed 5 games to date. With him scheduled to miss tomorrow's game at MSG, that will be ONLY 6 games in almost a decade. Add in the 108 playoff games and playing in the playoffs in 9 of the last 10 years, it is easy to see that he may just be worn out and needs time off.

Girardi is in the 2nd year of a 6 year extension with a caphit of $5.5 million per year. Is he just at a point that he is injured and needs time to heal or is he on the decline? This player has given everything for the team he plays for on and off the ice. Even with his play looking poorly so far this season, he deserves a chance to work himself out of the fan doghouse once he comes back from his knee injury. With the report of knee swelling, who knows if it's just swelling from getting hit with a puck, or could it be something more? Only time will tell.

The obvious choice with the Rangers in a slump would to bring up veteran Raphael Diaz who also has a low caphit. Could the Rangers bring up Brady Skjei on a tryout of sorts? Kevin Klein has started to skate and today was in a yellow non-contact jersey so he should be back within the week.

This Rangers team needs to play with some urgency and get their team concept back together. The Rangers and G.M. Jeff Gorton made their first move today by putting Jarrett Stoll on waivers. There are a few more that need to either play up to their potential, of moved. Let's get a few players healthy in Stepan, Klein, and Girardi and then fill the 3rd line holes so that this years version of the Rangers can be as good or even better than the Rangers of the last 2 years!!!
