RUMOR MILL

Thursday - March 25th

With 18 days remaining until the NHL trade deadline, all is relatively quiet on the Rangers front.

Not unexpectedly, the Rangers are probably going to be minor players this time round, without much in the way of short term assets they would be looking to part with.

Clearly they would look at offers for those on short term or expiring contracts like Brendan Smith, Ryan Strome, Jack Johnson and perhaps the likes of Colin Blackwell.

Former Devil Kincaid Added
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ 2:12:16 PM - October 9, 2020

Goaltender Keith Kincaid has been added to the team on a two year deal worth an average $875K per year.  Kincaid gives the Rangers a goaltender to expose in the upcoming waiver draft that will see the Seattle Kraken join the league next season.

The 31 year old brings 151 games of NHL experience over seven seasons, with all except last year in Montreal, being played across the Hudson for the New Jersey Devils.  At this stage of his career, he's likely just an insurance option should either of the Rangers' primary netminders get injured, but he could also perhaps provide some mentorship to a young team in Hartford that continues to be a work in progress.

Born in Farmingville, NY, Kinkaid played two years with Union College before signing on as an undrafted free agent with the New Jersey Devils.  He played most of two seasons with the AHL Albany Devils before making his NHL debut in the 2012-13 season, appearing in one game in relief, allowing 1 goal on 13 shots over the final 26 minutes of play.

In 2017-18 he assumed the starting role after an injury to Corey Schneider and looked impressive with a 26-10-3 record in 41 appearances, along with a .913 Sv% and 2.77GAA.  That proved to be unsustainable though and his career fortunes fluctuated with that of the team, following up with a 15-18-6 record in the same 41 appearances, and putting up the disappointing figures of .891 Sv% and 3.36 GAA.

A free agent stint with Montreal last year proved to continue the downward decline, with a 1-1-3 record in six games and a significantly underwhelming .875 Sv% and 4.24 GAA.
