Frank Seravalli The Daily Faceoff put together a list of the top 15 trade targets as we close out the second month. Amongst the list is former Ranger J.T. Miller, whom is among several Canucks players that might become available given their start to the season.

There's a lot working against this one though, especially with the Rangers now talking to Strome about an extension. While Miller can also play wing as well as center, the challenge will likely be trying to fit the $5.25M salary into the roster for next year, not to mention what they would do after next season when he becomes a UFA.

The 28 year old forward (29 in March), certainly has done well in Vancouver, putting up nearly a point a game (141 points in 146 games), and could well want out if the Canucks decide to rebuild. Alternatively, the Canucks might want to keep much of their current team, and certainly someone who has been such a good fit there.

Question Of The Day

August 19th, 2021

Earlier this year the Rangers won by a margin of nine goals as they beat the Flyers 9-0. How many times has the margin been bigger?

Oilers Slick Offense Too Much
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ 3:08:14 PM - November 6, 2021

A burst of offense in the second period by the Rangers was not enough to see off the Oilers, losing 6-5 in overtime after at one point holding a 4-1 lead.  The high powered Edmonton offense kicked into gear mid-way through the game, scoring four goals in the second half of the game to force the game to overtime where they finished the comeback.

It was a tough night for Alexandar Georgiev, and the Rangers defense, particularly K'Andre Miller and Jacob Trouba who struggled to keep up with the Oilers forwards.

Twenty Thoughts:

  1. In three games this year, Alexandar Georgiev has now allowed 13 goals on 95 shots for an eye-watering 4.26 GAA and a less than stellar .863 Save%.  Any thoughts that this game might be a boost for his confidence evaporated in the third when he gave up three goals, and the a fourth in OT

  2. Mika Zibanejad suddenly has 3 goals in two games, after scoring just one in the first nine games

  3. PUTTING HIS FOOT DOWN: Zibanejad's first goal he directed in with his skate as the Rangers converted on the PP for the second straight game.  Ryan Strome fed the puck to Ziabnejad in the slot, an unable to get his stick down, he simply turned his skate to direct it in

  4. The first goal of the game came off the stick of Filip Chytil, who skated well throughout the whole game and was perhaps the best player on the ice for the Rangers.  He later added set up Kevin Rooney on a two on one to make it 2-1

  5. The Rangers have now lost five straight to Edmonton, going 0-3-2 in that span.  They've given up 13 goals in the last two match-ups, and have lost three straight in Edmonton

  6. OVERPOWERED: Edmonton''s power play is crazy good, and they converted both of their chances agains the Rangers.  They now have converted on 15 of 30 chances this season, or 50% of their chances

  7. New York's power play improved to a season high 17th, with 21.1% and scored once on their two opportunities last night

  8. After breaking into the top 10 on the penalty kill, the Rangers fell back to 16th last night

  9. Going into the game, the Rangers had scored just five times in the second period this season, they took that total to eight last night, with three goals from Rooney, Kreider and Zibanejad

  10. The five goals by the Rangers were a season high, beating the four goals they put up against Columbus last month.  The six goals allowed were also a season high, and the most since THAT game against the Capitals back on May 3rd.  The Rangers haven't given up 7 since the last time there were in Edmonton, losing 7-5 after coming back from 6-1 down

  11. Chris Kreider scored his 8th goal in his 11th game on the season, that's on pace for 60 goals on the season.  His carer high is 28, which he registered in both 2016-17 and 2018-19.  He did have 20 in 50 games last yeas - which would have put him on pace for around 82 in a full season

  12. FIFTH COLUMN: Barclay Goodrow now has five points on the year, picking up a secondary assist last night on Kredier's goal.  That places him fifth on the team

  13. Meanwhile Adam Fox continues to add to his point total, with his team leading 10th assist and 12th point of the season, with the primary assist on Kreider's goal

  14. BACK IN BUSINESS: Nils Lundkvist got back in the line-up after a couple of games on the sidelines, and got an assist on Chytil's goal.  It was more of a flubbed shot that Chytil then picked up, but the young Swede looked fairly composed amongst the mayhem and ended the game a +2

  15. It's been a tough year for K'Andre Miller to date, with the sophomore defenseman sporting a team worst -6.  Late in the third, Gallant resorted to putting Patrik Nemeth on with Jacob Trouba, and the pair were on for Connor McDavid's game tying goal in the third

  16. A STICKY SITUATION: Speaking of that goal, McDavid single handledly walked through four Ranger defenders, including the aforementioned defensive pair on the way to beating Georgiev.  All four Rangers tried to stick check the puck instead of stepping into McDavid.  He's the best player in the world right now, but that was pretty ordinary

  17. As ugly as many of these games have looked, the Rangers have 15 points from their last 10, secojnd to only Carolina in the Metropolitan Division

  18. NOT THIS AGAIN: After going a perfect 5-0-0 when scoring first, the Rangers have now dropped consecutive games, albeit in Overtime.  Perhaps more troubling, the Rangers have also given up two, 2-goal leads in the third period in those games

  19. With the loss in OT, the Rangers are now 1-3 in overtime games this season, all three losses coming to Western Conference teams.  They were 2-3 in OT last year

  20. Ryan Reaves was a game time decision, but ultimately did not play.  Alexis Lafreniere was placed on the fourth line for the first time...was not much of a factor.
