RUMOR MILL

Saturday - October 16th

On tonight's Hockey Night in Canada intermission report during the Rangers-Canadiens game, it was brought up that the Rangers have approached Kravtsov again about playing in Hartford. No decision yet, but sounds like perhaps the Rangers are trying to find a way forward. With a potential injury to Kaapo Kakko tonight, it means the Rangers top six depth has taken another hit.

Youth Movement Still On Track Year 4
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ - July 3, 2008
Rangers fans will say goodbye and THANKS for the memories of the lasst couple of years to fan favorite Avery(congrats on getting your big payday), Malik, Straka, and especially ex-team Captain Jagr. Shanahan looks like a 60%-40% chance to return at this point. Replacing the departed are Redden, Naslund, Zherdev, Kalinin, Fritsche, Voros, and Rissimiller. Management has brought back Rozsival, Dawes, Sjostrom, and Valiquette along with the core group and role players.

It is now clear that Sather has turned the future of the Rangers to younger but yet still experienced players such as Gomez, Drury, and King Henrik. The Rangers have not only gotten younger, but much faster. Included in this group are last years forward additions Dubinsky, Callahan, Sjostrom and Dawes. For Prucha to be added to the regular lineup, he will have to shake off his worst year in the NHL, in what could be his last chance to stay in New York. A group of 6 players should battle for 4th line duty between Betts, Fritsche, Voros, Orr, Hollweg, and Rissimiller. All 6 will supply the crunching hits and toughness that some critics believe the Rangers are missing. Add Shanahan to this group of forwards and the Rangers have upgraded from last year. The Rangers can also dip into Hartford and bring up Korpokoski,Anisimov and/or Byers to display their talents for the Garden Faithful.

The defense which was clearly the Rangers weak link last season, has been addressed. Gone are (fan punching bag) Malik, Mara, and Strudwick. Free agent signings of Redden and (our own) Rozsival give the Rangers at least 2 defensemen that can play 25+ minutes a game each. Staal and Girardi have already shown their strong abilities by playing important minutes throughtout last season and the playoffs. Another new signing is defenseman Kalinin along with either bringing back Mara or calling up Sanguinetti.

In goal, the Rangers are set for many years to come. The KING and Valiquette have a great working relationship, which is most important for goalies. King Henrik is a top rated goalie and a Vezina finalist in his first 3 pro seasons and only the second goalie in NHL history to record 30 wins in each of his first 3 seasons (Tom Barrasso the other). Valiquette always gives the Rangers a solid effort and a chance to win when he is between the pipes.

Barring any MAJOR changes in the Rangers "New Direction", this roster is a Fast, Young, and Strong team with enough depth to incure the inevitable injuries that happen throughout a season.

Special Note---- Congratulations goes out to "Fatso" Broduer on his 2nd marriage. I hear it was a "FAMILY AFFAIR".
