The Rangers will be made in Tort's vision starting at the Draft

When the Rangers had their end of year meeting, coach Tortorella was point blank with the players about what direction HIS Rangers are going . When Tortorella won the cup in Tampa only 5 years ago, he had solid goaltending(Khabibulin),offensive type defensemen(Boyle,Cullimore,Kubina,Sydor,Sarich along with Lukowich and Rumble), huge forwards, and a North American flavor with 19 players from the USA/Canada while only 7 were from overseas. This Rangers team is going to take the offensive attack and allout effort needed to succeed. Tortorella has no problem letting a player not doing the right thing either getting a seat or getting him off the roster by demotion and/or traded. The perfect examples are last years playoffs by sitting Avery and letting Naslund know he wasn't needed this coming season. He let him retire rather than getting cut or sent down to Hartford. This team is shaping up comparable to that 2004 team(Lundqvist-Staal,Girardi,Redden,Rozsival,Mara,and Gilroy--but forwards need upgrade and size).
The rumors are flying about trades of forwards but Tortorella is building around forwards Callahan, Dubinsky, Gomez, Avery. By all reports, it seems that Tortorella believes he can make Zherdev an elite player in his system and both sides want this RFA signed. Dury is the Rangers captain right now but isn't a player that fits coach Tortorella's game too well(contract and NTC/NMC seems to keep him in NY). Look for the Rangers to sign Antropov(6'6" with great scoring touch to around 3 mil per),give Anisimov a shot(6'4 and ready to play in the NHL),to qualify RFA Sjostrom(speed and penaly kill specialist). The 4th line is up for grabs as Tortorella wants youth, size, and has to stay within the cap. Players that will be given this chance will be Crowder(signed out of college at the price of $975,000--a power forward at 6'3" 202lbs),Byers(ready after last years injury--6'3" 195lbs),Betts(great faceoff and penalty killer but is a UFA),Orr(Rangers fighter-UFA), Korpikoski(RFA),Voros(2 years left on his deal). Other invitees that will be noticed at forward will be Grachev(6'3"-202lbs--OHL player of the year at 19 yrs old),Wiese(6'2"-206lbs),Soryal(6'2"-218lbs--Rangers fans will love him),Switz signee Andres Ambul(5'9"-195lbs),and resigned Jordan Owens(6'-195lbs).
So now with Avery back, look for "Avery-lite"(cheaper and less talented replacement for Avery) Voros to be traded, waived, or sent to Hartford. Cap #'s will be a player as it is around the whole NHL, so look for Anisimov, Byers, Crowder, and Ambul to get a great shot at making this years team. BUT REMEMBER, a trade might not be far away.
Look for the Rangers to trade up in the draft to try to grab Zach Kassian who is clearly Tortorella's type of player. He is 6'3"-210 lbs and has all the tools. Rangers might have to trade up to a top 10 spot for him though. If the Rangers stay put at #19 look for them to grab a player from the QMJHL Jordan Caron(same place Tort's got Lecavelier and Brad Richards). Look for the Rangers to also draft more forwards this year but also a goalie within the 1st 3 rounds. ********************************************************************************
Garwood softball parents wanted to send out a special thanks to coach Scott K. They wanted to just say thanks for all the great work you do. Scott is a huge Rangers fan and improves the lives he touches buy volunteering and fundraising for many causes. Great job Scott. BRAVO!!
