Sources claim Sather has 2 HUGE trade offers out there.

Will Sather Pull The Trigger?
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 12/31/1899 12:16:56 AM - June 22, 2009

Sources with ties to the Rangers have stated that Sather has decided to offer up some youth for top level talent available. There is ALSO talk about the Rangers going for free agent Gaborik while others say there are 2 trade offers that might solidify the Rangers for many years to come.

If the Rangers stay put with it's main players from it's current roster and just add Gaborik(say at 6 mil per)along with youth from Hartford, they could put a young, quick, big team under the $55 Million range. The constant will always be Lundqvist in net with Valley as the backup. The defense could still fit Redden and Rozsival along with Staal, Girardi, Sauer, and Gilroy/Mara. The forwards could fit Avery, Gomez, Gaborik, Dubinsky(1.5), Drury, Callahan(1.5), Sjostrom, Korpikoski, Byers, Dupont, and Crowder (signed out of college for $975,000--will be given every chance to make team out of camp). That makes a young, fast, and big team that would be a fit under Tortorella and in Sather's mould.

The first rumor that will either be fulfilled or squashed will be the one that has the Rangers going after Heatley. The price for Heatley has changed with the prospect of the $4 million bonus to be paid on July 1st. That actually favors the Rangers. Dolan has always given whatever money was needed for this team, Sather just used to squander it. The players involved are Heatley (contract plus $4 mil bonus) to the Rangers for possibly Dubinsky, Stepan (on top line at Univ. of Wisconsin as a freshman), Voros (they like the "Neil Type"), and Rozsival. The numbers hit under $55 mil including a better defence. It could be Redden, Staal, Girardi, Mara, Gilroy, and Sauer with The King and Valley in net. Forwards could be Heatley, Gomez, Callahan(1.5), Avery, Drury, Korpikoski(1.1), Sjostrom ($840,000), Anisimov, Antropov(3.5 per--alot of money fronted in the contract), Byers, Dupont, and Crowder. That makes the Rangers really strong.

Another rumor is for Vinny L. (who gets paid cash $10 mil each year for the next 7 years). Tampa needs defencemen and are leaning to take Redden off our hands (to then but him out). Other players going to Tampa are rumored to be Girardi, Grachev, Zherdev, and Potter. Including the buyout (2.05 mil cap hit-$20.46 payout that's cap hit is spread out over 10 year which is twice the contract length), the money cap hit for the 1st year is very close. Only Tampa gets 4 players at that price. If Sather was to pull of a total miracle and get both(it would be the REAL MIRACLE ON 33rd STREET), the team would have a CAP HIT of around $51.5 mil with say 4 mil for a stay at home dman needed. This roster would look like Heatley, Gomez, Callahan, Drury, Avery, Lecavalier, Sjostrom, Anisimov, Byers, Dupont, Crowder, Orr (a raise to $750,000); Dmen Staal, Sanguenetti, Mara, Gilroy, Sauer,$4 million dollar dman with The King and Valley in Net.

SO, if any of these scenarios look good to you, good luck. Take out your rabbits foot, call Santa, and tell the Easter Bunny to stop dropping "chocolate pellets" on my lawn. The scenario I hope for is that Antropov signs and Heatley is traded to us, only if we can switch Dubinsky for Korpikoski and/or Zherdev. I believe in the Rangers youth movement. This is the year that Rangers management told us the Rangers would be contenders for Lord Stanley, YEAR 5 of the "Youth Movement". So far we have seen Tyutin,Prucha,Dawes leave in the last year. Sather, remember your promise to the Rangers fans, we have been patient and ticket prices are going up.
