Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

Frolov Days as a Ranger Are Over
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 8:19:12 PM - January 9, 2011

In the Rangers win over the St. Louis Blues, the Rangers lost 3rd line leftwing Alex Frolov. Frolov seemed to be a big signing this offseason and was projected to be the left wing for Gaborik. At the halfway point of the season that was a combination that just didn't seem to work well. Frolov had fallen out of favor and slid down to the third line behind Dubinsky,Fedetenko, and sometimes even Avery. His one year at 3 million in the summer seemed like a great deal for a potential 30 goal scorer, but turned out to be alot of money for a 3rd/4th liner. Of course nobody like to see injuries happen to players, but just like the rest of the injuries to Callahan,Prospal,Drury,Boogard, and now Frolov it opens up an opportunity for someone else to step in and get a chance to earn an NHL spot.

The Garden has posted that Kris Newbury Is the callup from the Whale that will get a chance. Newbury showed a physical game and had 30 assist in 45 games in the AHL. He should be on a line and replace Frolov with Drury and Weise. The Rangers made the trade for Newbury last year with Detroit by giving them Jordan Owens. Owens was signed by the Rangers as a free agent and weren't happy with his growth within the system, so they traded for a type of player that would fit. Newbury brings with him a physical type of game and is a good passer that can play all three forward positions. He seems to be a much cheaper and more physical version of Todd White.

We send out a good luck on the right knee surgery for Alex Frolov and a welcome to Kris Newbury and good luck during your time in NY. As the saying goes, when one door closes--another door opens.
