RUMOR MILL

Tuesday - October 25th

Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

WIth Redden banished to the AHL and now Rozsival traded, that is 11.5 cap gone

Last Years Top Paid Dmen Both Are Now Gone
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 11:54:51 AM - January 11, 2011

In the new era of the NHL cap, the Rangers have shed 11.5 million a year of Rangers defensemen between R&R going away. There were many people screaming for that to happen last year in a non-playoff year in wich those two played close to 20 minutes a night each. Well, Rangers management has made amends for their past mistakes. Redden was banished to the minors and Rozsival was traded yesterday for Wojtek Wolski. Wolski is a quick responce by management for the loss of Frolov for the rest of the season due to injury.

The Rangers failed project of Frolov is alot like another failed player in Zherdev. All of these players are said to have a great skill set but all are said to be inconsistent. We have seen the inconsistent play of Zherdev and Frolov, but with Wolski asking for a trade to a team that would fit his "style" it was a win-win for the Rangers and Coyote GM's. Wolski would seem to be a good fit with Coach Tort's offensive style of play but could also go into a shell if he is sent to the doghouse.

There was alot of talk last season of Rozsival to Dallas amd that he would be moved because of all the Rangers prospects being on the brink of being NHL regulars. With MDZ being the only defenseman that could go through waivers without getting claimed, MDZ was sent down and McDonagh called up to prove if he was ready. With the trade of Rozsival, it seems that the Rangers management thinks he is NHL ready.

The Rangers will have a challenge in their next 4 games to prove that they are a top contender in the Eastern Conference or if they are just talented enough to slide into the playoffs. The Rangers seem to be tweaking their whole organization to the offensive style of Torts by adding Wolski,Stu Bickel,Chad Kolarik while subtrcting Nigel Williams,Dane Byers, and demoting Todd White. There will be more changes coming with players getting healthy in Ryan Callahan, Derek Boogard, Eric Christensen, and Vinny Prospal who are all forwards. Kris Newberry and Dale Weise would seem like the easy picks to go back to the AHL, but after that it's anyone guess if they even need to send anyone else down with all the extra cap space the Rangers have.
