The Rangers McDonagh is a pleasant surprise the year.

Going into this season, the Rangers coaches and management promised that the younger players would get a chance over a veteran player. Well, this season we have seen Derek Stepan get top six forward minutes, Michael Sauer get top 4 defenseman minutes, Ryan Mcdonagh get called up and getting top 4 defensemen minutes and Mats Zuccarello called up and become a shootout star. With these players joining the core of Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi all getting important minutes on special teams and crunch time in games, the Rangers youth is having a season that will serve well for future years.
The Rangers have never seen this amount of youth making the Rangers who they are. The Rangers organization seems to finally be making the right choices and are willing to have growing pains. The Rangers are going through a bad growth spurt right now but it isn't all bad. The Rangers have had many injuries to go along with inexperience and are still in a position to make the playoffs. The schedule now gets somewhat easier and if they play the same way that they have, the Rangers will get a better endings to many of the games they have lost. The Rangers still have their destiny in their own hands as they are in a playoff position and play many teams they are battling for anywhere from the 5th to 8th spots.
Chris Kreider may join the team this season once his Boston College hockey season is over and he has already proven he can play with NHL players when he was the only college player to play on team USA in the World Championships. That alone would help the forward line combinations as he is a left wing with speed, size, and loves to shoot. The Rangers could use a "tweak" to the roster right now, a hard shot from the powerplay point would help, but to get rid of a core Ranger would be a HUGE mistake. Just because MArian Gaborik is out with a concussion, don't panick with a huge trade, just play the "everyone against the Rangers" mantra that worked so well earlier in the season.
Stay the course Rangers while getting the young players to learn that playing well in the NHL isn't good enough, but they need to translate that into wins. *********************UPDATED*************************************************** SHeldon Souray has cleared waiver without going for him. All points now look at Bryan McCabe as the frontrunner to be a Ranger. The Rangers had scouts at the last 2 Florida games. McCabe has just gotten back from a broken jaw and logged around 20 minutes in each game. Reports say that the Rangers had a deal in place BEFORE his injury. Lets hope that no core players go for this rental.
