Blueline Now Set
August 2, 2006

The Rangers today announced that they have re-signed their 2001 2nd round draft pick, Fedor Tyutin to a two year deal.  The 23 year old Russian will average just under $1 million a year for the next two seasons, about a 50% raise on what he earned last season on the last year of his entry level contract.  Tyutin played his first full season in the NHL last year, and also represented his native Russia at the Torino Olympics.

A steady defender, he was third on the team in total ice time (behind Rozsival and Jagr) and averaged 20:33 each game.  His 4 power play goals was the most amongst Ranger defensemen as was his total of 6 goals from the blueline.

With the re-signing of Tyutin, the Rangers appear to have their blueline set going into Training Camp next month.  Malik, Ward, Tyutin, Rozsival, Rachunek and Kasparaitis look to be the starting six, with Ozolinsh likely to miss the start of the season due to injury.
