Henrik Lundqvist will be appearing in his 15th regular season for the Rangers, the first goalie, and just the sixth player overall:

18 - Rod Gilbert
17 - Harry Howell
17 - Brian Leetch
16 - Ron Greschner
16 - Jean Ratelle
15 - Ott Heller
15 - Henrik Lundqvist

Marc Staal will play in his 13th regular season, twelfth player to reach that mark

Of the Rangers, only Jacob Trouba and Brendan Lemieux have played for the Jets

Neal Pionk is the only Jets player who has played for the Rangers

Kaapo Kakko will become the first player born in the 21st Century to play for the Rangers.

The Rangers are the only NHL team with eight players on their Opening Night roster age 23 or younger, and the only team with five players age 21 or younger.

The difference between Kaako and Chytil is striking. Kaako is gonna be a force to be reckoned with. There will be adjustments and slumps, but the kid looks like he's confident already.

Well, so far they look like they can score enough goals to win, but their defensive coverage and net front defense is not as good as it should be.

Understatement of the night -

They still look like they lack a 5 man defensive purpose, just like last year. Coaching coaching coaching.

Defensive pairings haven't played together enough. They're all new to each other and I'm optimistic that this will improve. But I'd like to see some snarl on defense and so far there's none.

Eventually some teams, especially within the division, are gonna get physical with Kaako. You can't defend him otherwise. The Rangers had better be aware of this and put somebody like Lemieux on his line from time to time.

There was no mesh between the lines and the d pairs last year. 40 shots so far tells me there is lots of work to be done.

Team defense was atrocious. I still can't understand why this team constantly has guys 10 feet away from the other teams point men. It's been going on for years. It's dumb. The other team looks like they are on the PP at even strength. Staal looks to be done much like Girardi was. He's at that point. I suspect the team will buy him out next year if they can't deal him which I don't expect they will be able to do Kakko should be on the first line. I'm hoping they trade Buchnevich. Never liked him and still don't. Everytime you think he's figured it out, he sucks again. Strome looked like crap. That God Zibanejad is turning into a beast.

I was at Radio City for a concert last night...

Walking down the staircases after the show, a Let's Go Rangers chant broke out.... I didn't start it, but I was the first one to do the clap which got the whole crowd going.

It felt like walking out of MSG... It was magical.

Mika is an allstar... The league doesn't know it.... He doesn't know it.... but we do....

Yeah definitely a mixed bag but enjoyable. There are flashes of ok this could work but many oh-boys! The team defense is a sh%$%$ show with gaping gaps all over. I agree that retreat to the net style is crippling leaving your blue line uncontested at all times is recipe for disaster. Flashes of clean exits but still those soft passes to unoccupied space where nobody in Blue can reach.
Have not been sure about Panarin, $12M per value, however watching last night starting to see what others see.

Lindy Ruff

and Quinn -
Quinn better sit down with Ruff and figure it out. They leave too much space on D and the shots come fast and furious from all over. There are ways to direct the opponent into shooting areas that work for Hank. Last season and last night Hank faced shots from all over the ice. Quinn is Gorton's guy - JD will have less patience for bad team d than Sather/Gorton.

The key to a good D team is for the forwards to come back & pick up their men. Good D is team D.
