I guess I kind of hoped that the Rangers might trade Georgiev and that Lundqvist would come back for one final year as backup..that's obviously not going to happen. For a franchise that has had a lot of great goaltenders, Lundqvist ranked amongst the best, if not the best. I think we didn't always fully appreciate how good he was when he was here, but there's been only a few in the history of the league that remained near the top of their game as long as he did.

Absolutely no doot aboot it! We as Ranger fans have been very blessed with being able to watch great goaltenders for most of our lives....

Eddie, Beezer, Richter and Lundqvist....Yeah there were a few low spots in between but I don't think any franchise can match those 4 over that period... Maybe Boston... But there were some very good guys in between like JD, Gilles Villemure (mostly a backup)

Henk might be the all time best NYR goaltender ever...Wins SV% GA Avg. says it all

I'm obviously partial to Eddie Giacomin, he was my childhood idol. But Henrik is certainly in the running as the best goalie in franchise history, along with Richter.

This stat, from the NY Post article, is stunning:

"Lundqvist played in eight Game 7s, going 6-2 with a 1.11 GAA and .961 save percentage, never allowing more than two goals in any of those showdown matches."

If the King had the benefit of some goal scoring his stats and winning record would have been even more impressive. And he would've had the Cup in 2014. Eddie had his shots at the Cup in '72 and '74, but the Bruins had Bobby Orr in his prime in '72 and the Flyers had Bernie Parent who admittedly outplayed Eddie in '74. But Henrik had a legit shot in 2014 and the AV-led Rangers were anemic offensively. Henrik carried that team.

His jersey belongs in the rafters at the Garden and it will be great to watch that.
