Anyone think it would be a possibility to give him one more shot if the price was right-- 5/6 round pick? His contract ends this year, so no issue for future cap space. Maybe he could help PP but the downside is that he could be a virus.

Number 1 priority with the way the defense just decides to stop playing, is Brian McCabe. Big physical defenseman who runs the powerplay and has a big shot. If the cap space was somehow doable for Kovalev.

The Rangers need to be in a rent-a-player mindset these next few years. We have our guys, and anyone you bring in that doesn't have an expiring contract is just going to hinder your progress down the road. Bring in aging guys with expiring contracts and you help your playoff effort and development of the younger guys.

Bryan McCabe SUCKS.... he is a 5 or 6th guy at best .. he is HORRIBLE in his own zone and he has a very good shot from the point.. but he is not going to help the Rangers... the Rangers are better off going for a guy like Barret Jackman from St.Louis.. he actually is a GOOD defenseman who is tough and physcial and would be worth picking up and he is alsoi signed through next year...

As for Kovalev.. if you wanted him .. it would be better to pick up Zherdev off waivers as it would cost nothing but cash.. they are similar players.. lots of skill but when they are not motivated they are useless

My Guess is that Zherdev winds up in Pittsburgh.

I always liked Kovalez and his flashes of brilliance-shooting, stickhandling and whatever else he chose to do. That's the key "chose" to do. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Torts tells Kovalev to play a team game. It would be close to the same conversation with Avery (without the "acid". Kovalev has spoken-on national tv of not playing hard during the regular season so he could save himself for the second season, the cup run. That would not endear him to the coach or team. Maybe that avoiding the wear and tear of the regular season is why he's playing still at 40.
