Good job by AV, saddling Stepan with that prolific scoring winger, Jesper Fast.

Q: What happens when the opponent takes away the center ice pass and transition game from the Rangers, forcing them to dump and chase?

A: This.

Newsflash just reported by Sam: Gallant fired as coach of the Panthers.

In other news, AV still is the coach of the Rangers. Unfortunately.

Rangers trail by 2 in the third, Vesey stuck to the bench while Fast and Puempel get ice.

Just fire AV already.

Why is somebody named Puempel playing in the third, trailing by 2?

AV may need to part ways with some of his Fancy Dandys in order to get some greasy goal getters. Otherwise this is a repeat of last year. Great start to the season because of their speed and fancy plays while other teams get their teams settled. Then the checking gets tighter 20+ games into the season and the Rangers are a .500 team for the rest of the season.

This is the classic preview of the Rangers results facing a team that plays like Ottawa in the playoffs. Excellent defense will beat good offence most very time in a series. Good offensive teams get away with lots of small errors all season. But in a series teams that make mistakes lose. AV and his stupid breakout pass mentality is going to be the end of the Rangers early in the playoffs again. Ottawa schooled them on chipping it out, using the boards 95% of the time, usually to another forward who either skated it into the Rangers zone, or dumped it in, which ever was the smart play. Then 2 guys on the puck. That's every bit as effective as AV's fast break when it does work. It's junior b hockey and very effective when 21 guys buy into it. Meat and potato hockey, something this coach knows zip about. If the Rangers don't learn how to adjust their game to match up to other teams game plans their done. And I haven't seen much change to this coaches game plan including his Vancouver days.
