Andersson thinks he can make this team. While the Rangers almost never put 18 year olds in the league, he might pull it off. Duclair wasn't quite ready. I hope the Rangers do little in the offseason. They have no need to add a defenseman. A backup goalie yes. They seem to build them up with our elite goaltender coach then deal them for nice returns. A third line center on no more than a 2 year deal if Andersson isn't in the mix. Rangers have a habit of giving crap role playing UFA's 3 year deals.

So, you're fine rocking a defense consisting of

McDonagh Holden
Skjei Smith
Staal DeAngelo

?.

I dont know even if Lias is lights out in training camp should he stay...18 is crazy young...on the other hand Boo, Graves, Tambellini, Bryz....all starting to get close to their mid 20's and still not here.

Also, don't forget there will lots of player still without contract when the camp starts.
Some of the tryouts might work out.

Long way to the season opening lineup methinks.

The Rangers need to go young on defense. Face it. Hank's time is over. They are now setting things up for the next goalie. Pencil Graves in. I had him rated ahead of Skjei at one point. The Rangers defense was slow, lazy and overpaid the past 2 years. It's time to go in a different direction.

Wondering what other (if any) moves we might make. There is about $8.3 million left on the cap. Guessing Zib and Fast account for around $5 million, which leaves $3 million. Perhaps Grigorenko could be had for around $1.5 million. Still have 9 contract slots left, though I would imagine a few will go to draft picks or AHL depth.

My calculations show us with about 11.2 mill of cap space left (do not count Klein since he will retire this week). I am guessing around 7 mill for Zib and Fast. So we'll have about 4.2 left. I also fully expect us to deal Holden if we need to, so that would leave us with around 6 mill (maybe a touch under) to add a forward.

Issue is there is not much left available. But we can always work some sort of trade. And with Gorton pretty much coming out and saying we'll add a forward yesterday, I expect us to add someone in the coming days (be it a signing or a trade).
