A big one just happened:

The Canadiens acquire Jonathan Drouin + a cond. 6th-round pick (2018) from TBL, in return for M. Sergachev + a cond. 2nd-round pick (2018).

Just saw that... No clue about this Sergachev defenseman, but I guess we'll be hearing that name soon enough if it was enough to land Drouin basically straight up

Thats a shocking trade. Drouin is a gamechanging type player. TB is kinda handcuffed financially with the callahan contract.

Game changing player? I don't know about that, at least not yet, but he has the potential. He wore out his welcome there. I don't know anything about this player in return, but you would think he has potential.

I don't think he wore out his welcome, he had a pretty good showing after his year ago' trials. I also think he's going to take a pretty good leap in his game. He's a French kid and he's going to be a fan favourite, and a coaches favourite. He's a hell uva player.

Sergachev this season played on the same D-corp as Day. Remember seeing that their numbers were similar but the Russian had better offensive numbers but not a large margin.

Had no doubt Bolts would eventually trade him. Yzerman wasn't happy with the holdout or the comments he made at the time. Sergachev was slated to step into lineup next season (and FINALLY get rid of Markov). Now the Habs will have to trade for a top d-man.

He's a easy guy to move after the sideshow a season ago. But in fairness to Druoin he had a pretty good season this year and to me washed away a lot of the animosity. And it is still a by product of the cap world. But right now Druoin is a more proven commodity. If Sergachev lives up to the hype then the trade ends up helping both teams. I agree Montreal needs some new blood on D, but the scuttlebutt is Gelenchyk is going to be moved.

I'm just hoping this doesn't turn into another McDonagh type deal. Yzerman waited until the right deal came along. Had he traded him a year ago, he would have gotten pennies on the dollar. The Drouin acquisition definitely makes Galchenyuk expendable.

I think down the road both teams will be happy. So if Druoin nets this return what's Stepan worth?

I will be suprised if he gets traded. When the rumours are Arizona is hot to trot and no other teams mentioned it doesn't bode well. He's also a Vigneault favourite.

Doubt they'll come away with 10... but 5 is a definite possibility. Still that would mean they have a sh!tty roster team because of the garbage they were left to select, and I would assume they'd use those picks to trade and get some real players.

Deadline has passed... Drouin the biggest name to be traded, Mike Smith goes to Flames. Rangers didn't make any moves.

Teams submit their protected lists by 5PM today. League expected to publicize those lists at 10AM tomorrow morning.

Rangers cannot trade with anyone except VGK until Thursday morning. That doesn't mean deals can't be worked out in principle though.

That's pretty cheap for a decent depth defenseman.

Welp I'm sensing this is going to be a nothing done til July 1 whiff by Gorton. And then spend ridiculous cash for Shattenkirk and his defensive shortcomings all the while pinning Skjei to the bench for the bulk of most power plays. And then watching double mint play Marc Staal and his boy Nick copiously on the penalty kill, and then Coach being interviewed, and wondering why the PK sucks. This off season is 100% on Gorton and heading into next season it's his team and he and bonehead should be judged accordingly. The opportunity is now, they still have the talent to compete, with the necessary additions.
