Rangers lost Girardi's grit on the backline and have not replaced it yet.

Their 4th line has no bite.

What the **** are they waiting for? This is where you address those concerns with role players and #5's - #6's looking for a fresh start.

Your choice....never believed I had to support a player just because he wore the uniform.

That's a decent deal for depth scoring.

Oh, Florida? I mean top line scoring.

Seems like kind of a slow day compared to the usual July 1st activity. Maybe I am wrong though.

Good point. That's why it doesn't feel as exciting as usual. We did get the biggest fish available though, so there's that.

I am getting the feeling that this whole Kovalchuk returning to the NHL affair, is a fabricated product of his player agent trying to milk as much money as possible out of his KHL deal.

According to Cap Friendly NYR have 8.3M cap space available and need to sign Mika and Jesper. So prolly about $4m left after that. If Klein comes off the cap, that leaves about $7M available. The big downer is Staal 4 years left at 5.7 / season. Nash comes off after this season

Could we make a 2018 run at Taveras? He gotta wanna get the f out of NYI's

I think Ziban will cost 5. Fast around 2. So maybe 7 all in. Thinking we have about 4.5 or so after Klein retires. Need to flip Holden and bump that up to 6 and change. Then we have room to add a C.

Theoretically - probably. It will take a little maneuvering. Someone else would have to go.

Nash comes off the books at $7.8m. That's a good chunk of it, plus the roster spot we need. Grabner UFA as well.

The complicated part is that Miller, Hayes, Vesey, Skjei are all RFA that same year. Presumably they all need raises. If we can move Staal off the roster that also clears up a bunch of money, but by my estimation still not quite enough. One of Hayes, Miller, Vesey, Skjei may have to go, unless another move is made somehow.

This is assuming Tavares gets a multi-year deal in the $9m range which may or may not be reliable as well.

Also - the cap may go up. It went up $2m for this year. Don't expect it to rise much, if at all next year, but if it goes up another $2m that may be just enough. All depends on what Tavares' number is.

Show him what it's like to play for a real NY team.

From Gorton:

•Where do things go now at center, "I would say that we have some ongoing things to try and help us at center, we know it's a need and a hole there we are trying to fix. We also have the luxury of JT Miller, who we feel is a natural center and at some point we are hoping he can make that move and that gives us a little flexibility. We are looking. We have had some discussions with teams and trade scenarios. Definitely aware of the situation and see how it moves going forward."

•Is it a trade scenario or a free agent, "I don't know. Hard to say. We are looking at both scenarios, check out the market and see what players can help you and prices and all of that info. We have talked to several teams about centers and we will see where it takes us."

So we'll get something done at C.

I think that's encouraging?

Anyone have any idea what the price for Duchene or Galchenyuk would be?

I would be surprised if we could swing that type of deal, especially Duchene, but who knows. Warranted or not, I have a ton of faith in Gorton to make good smart moves. I think he did a great job last summer, a smart job at the trade DL and thus far has done a great job again this summer.

A lot of faith in that guy to get us where we need to be. We'll add a good solid forward for sure I think.
