Imo this is the worst case for the Rangers based on who was available. But what it confirms is that McPhee is a smart man.

I think also this was the worst case scenario for the Rangers for a few reasons. But possibly the worst reason is now they are down a center and are going to feel like they have to keep Stepan...The nightmare is coming true!

I'll reserve full judgement for after the weekend... this will likely only be one out of many transactions. If Gorton can work some miracles then he'll get full marks from me.

I liked Lindbergh he played ok but we are not talking a game changer. He's not a pup, and has probably reached his full potential or close to it. I would have rather lost Fast, but oh well. All in all, the Rangers didn't get dinged to hard. I'd like to see a more traditional hard banging checking type fourth line centre anyways. Boo Nieves should get a good opportunity now. The little I saw of him I liked. But knowing double mint he's already got a call into Brian Boitano.

We really don't get hurt at all.

Not losing Raanta means a good chance at a good deal for us.

Nieves blows. Not happy about this. However. let's see what Gorton will do. Silver lining in this is Gabriel Fontaine. He's a faceoff stud and I think he's been used as a defensive center by his team because the rest of their forwards suck ass defensively. He's also clutch. I would not be shocked to see him make this team next year.

Would rather have lost Grabner because I feel he probably will be somewhere else next year.If he has another year like last year, some other team will overpay for him and he will leave.Plus this team's recent history shows that they pretty much never resign their own ufas that they had signed either a year or two earlier.Unless Gorton works some magical trades this is not a win now team, and losing Lindberg hurts more over the long haul.He was the only center that showed up for every game this playoff year.

At the same time Linbergs of the hockey world are not hard to find. All teams will loose some good players, that's expansion for you, you loose good players.

That's right not that it matter what we say here. Most, many existing teams can't even sell out & loosing $$$ yearly. Playoff teams like Senators, Ducks don't even sell out. Talent is so thin & spread out, games are hard to watch again. Who is going to spend more $$$ to watch another expansion team??? Am I going to pay so much $$$ to watch this Vegas team, no. I won't even turn the TV on. Stupid.

Oscar is an injury prone bottom 6 player...very replaceable...If Grabs has another season like last...It will be great for us...or he can be dealt at the deadline for assets

When does this team ever trade anyone for assets at the trade deadline? The last I remember was before the lockout season and I believe with all the contacts that Sather had around the league at that time,he was pretty sure that there was going to be a lond work stoppage the next year.Plus mixed in with all the guys moved that year at the deadline,he was able to pick up Jagr so it wasn't just a dump players for assets deal.

When Grabner returns to his 15 goal year(which was probably his pace after the first 2 months last year),the love for him will be greatly diminished. So will the good assets being offered for him.

Then if thats the case...We get what we can get or let him walk...You cant discount his wheels....and luckily Sather isnt around anymore to make deals...."If I had the NYR payroll, I'd win the Cup every year"

I'm getting tired of players being allowed to walk away with nothing in return. The only saving grace with Grabner is that we gave nothing up to get him.

I'm gonna go on record by saying that losing Lindberg SUCKS. Memories are short. At times during the playoffs he was the best Ranger on the ice. He played a straightforward, physical and effective game and added quality chances and points as a 4th line center.

Perhaps fans forgot that he started the season with surgeries on his hips and didn't hit his stride until the second half of the season and the playoffs.

I'm predicting that, barring injury, Lindberg will be a solid 3rd line center with respectable offensive numbers for LV.

I agree PV29.Of course that straight forward, physical, effective game is not the way this coach wants the game played.

Obviously. Lindberg was benched for stretches of time in the playoffs as were Skjei and Smith for that reason.

Gallant will find plenty of ice time for Lindberg. Might even give him some top 6 wingers to work with.

Grabner is very effective killing penalties, even if he doesn't score. His speed stretches the opponents pp out. Vigneault has a bad habit of messing with things that are going good and screwing it up. Sorta like bouncing Grabner all over the place after his hot start. His worst might have been breaking up a very hot Kreider, Zibanejad and Buchnevich line.

You can't do anything about it, you loose players with expansion, that's all it is. I think NHL should have 40 teams, a nice round #.

A bottom 6 penalty killer who scores 15 goals for 1.65mill? I'll take it. The speed also puts huge pressure on the opposing D. I hate losing Lindberg, but Grabner is an affordable asset for the Rangers.

He is for a year, but then he's UFA. Grabner will help the team more in the short term, Lindberg could have potentially anchored a 3C/4C for years. It's more about if you want to keep the player that's better in the short term, or the long term.

You can see that VGK chose some players in order to just flip them for more assets. From some teams they simply took "best available"/"highest value." I suspect they took Lindberg, who is generally unheralded/virtually unknown around the league, as longer term core player for their bottom 6. Otherwise I would think, they would have taken Grabner or Raanta in order to flip them.

what exactly is your basis for saying he's injury prone? That he missed some games early in the 2016-17 season due to off-season hip surgery? Nenver missed a game at any level due to injury till then.

Sheesh!

Yea calling him injury prone is a bit of a stretch, Hip injures in Hockey are a red flag though...

Lindberg has no documented concussions. Went through concussion protocol once in the playoffs, was cleared, played the rest of the game and series.
