Rookie Posts: 215 ![]() | Yes except right now there are 12 forwards on the roster,Fast will miss at least 6 weeks,Puempel who sucks and wasn't exactly a choice of AV last is another, and Desharnais who has been declining for a few years is another. The forwards right now don't look very good.

Yeah, $4 million for Hagelin's 14 goals and 6 goals in the last 2 seasons is really missed. No Hags meant there was room for Grabner at $1.65million and 27 goals last season. Even if Grabner scores 10 goals this season, he is a way better value than Hagelin while providing a similar skill set.

It wouldn't take much for him to become the best player in the deal. Edited by Rranger 2017-07-12 2:10 PM

Legend Posts: 14925 ![]() Location: USA | I didn't say we should sign Hagelin at $4m, I'm disappointed in the return and the subsequent mismanagement of assets. They sold high on Hagelin and through mismanagement they whittled him away into nothing. Also we did not get Gropp "free and clear" out of the deal, we gave up a second and a fifth, I think, so we basically only traded up a few spots in the second round. Sadly Gropp has not progressed as expected, but he is a bigger body and often power forward types take a little longer to develop. Hopefully he can begin to put it together next year in Hartford, he still has a few years before it's "make or break". He may yet turn out to the be the best player in the deal but that's at least 2 years away still and hopefully he gets back on track.

Rookie Posts: 207 ![]() | No...we actually moved up into the 2nd to select Gropp, and traded away a 5th. So if Gropp becomes a player it was a good deal for Hags. If Gropp is a flop, then we got nothing for Hags. We need to see how Gropp turns out before we say we got nothing, because the ability to select him in the 2nd was the big return for Hags, not Etem. It would not be a stretch to view those as separate transactions - Hagelin for Etem was trade 1. Rangers' second and fifth to trade up and select Gropp was trade 2. There is probably residual value from Hagelin that allowed us to move up as much as we did but to say Hagelin -> Gropp is IMO more incorrect. if Gropp has a career equal to Hagelin's then I would call it a win for the Rangers. Anything less than that is a loss, because Etem and Jensen provided nothing for the organization.

Scorer Posts: 608 ![]() | From what I've see of Gropp he fits this system perfectly. He has great speed. Good size. Unlike a lot of our forwards he has a big time wrist shot that can beat pro goalies with no screen from a good ways out. Feel good that he will be a good pro on this team.

Anaheim's Murray is not a fool, there is no way he's trading 41 overall for 59 and 179. The only way it's done is like it was. The Rangers were not trading Hagelin straight across for Etem. It's all about filling out the trade, Rangers get a jump in picking, Anaheim gets the guy they want and significantly lessor picks.
