Brian Leetch and Brad Richards are back with the organization helping players develop as Hockey Operations Advisors

https://www.nhl.com/rangers/news/rangers-name-brian-leetch-and-brad-...

I get the impression that they give guys like these titles to pretty much do whatever they want, and get paid for it. Show up for camp.... throw in their two cents on what they see... go watch the Traverse City games... maybe lace up during some practices both here and in Hartford... go watch some games. Maybe check in on Chytil in Czech or Shestyorkin in Russia.. whatever!

And then just give their feed back.... Hey yeah, Ryan Graves looks ready, or hey Nieves, you need to work on this: ________

Centers need help in FO, Richards will give you some tips... Leetch impart some wisdom on DeAngelo and get drooled on by Shattenkirk...

Either way, pretty cool. Add in Drury and Graves... really cool

Mess said Leetch is the greatest Ranger of them all. Who am I to argue? He is. If Hank does win it all, which is doubtful, he will be the one. He may be the it anyway when he retires.

What Jed Ortmeyer will be doing in his role with the Rangers

10:50AM

So it Looks like Leetch and Richards will be taking orders from,,drum roll .... The Director Jed Ortmeyer.... yeah right !

Earlier this summer the Rangers announced that Jed Ortmeyer was rejoining the organization and taking on a role as
Director of Player Development.

The Rangers say that in his role, Ortmeyer will work with Adam Graves to oversee "
development of Rangers prospects, both on and off the ice" and that he will work with players at all different stages in the organization.

Ortmeyer says that this is a "dream job" for him and that he looks forward to helping the Rangers young players and prospects in the way that Adam Graves and former teammates Mark Messier and Brian Leetch helped him. (NYR)

Chris Drury, who held the position of Director of Player Development before being promoted to Assistant GM, says that Ortmeyere will be a "great example" for the young members of the Rangers organization. (NYR)

The Rangers announced yesterday that Brian Leetch and Brad Richards are also joining the organization.

Brian Leetch doesn't have a defined role with the Rangers

Sep 7 | 5:47PM

6:42PM: Brian Leetch spoke with the media today about his new role with the Rangers and said (NYR):
•Different members of the Rangers organization, including Jeff Gorton, Adam Graves and other friends, have reached out over the years about joining the organization and the difference now is that his kids are getting older and felt that it would be a good time to get acquainted with players and personnel at different levels of the organization.
•"It's not like I have a defined role, it's my job to learn as much as I can about the organization and players and if there is an opportunity to give my opinion and help some players along the way, that would be great."
•He joked that most of the players he worked with today were 4-5-6 years old when he retired.
•He left Kevin Shattenkirk a message when he signed and said that he looked forward to seeing him when training camp started.
•He is going to Traverse City to watch some games and will be in NY at the start of training camp and then go to Hartford.
•"It's my job to get up to speed with the organization and the players they currently have."
•Many of the people around the Rangers who are with the team now were with the team when Leetch was starting out as a player.
•He will continue to reside in Boston but fly/drive down to New York or drive to Hartford, "It's my job to get involved and provide some value to the organization and they have allowed me to do that."

5:47PM: Brian Leetch was on the ice today with the Rangers prospects going to Traverse City and said that he doesn't have a "defined role" in his new position as Hockey Operations Advisors. (NY Post)

Leetch said that he views his job as trying to learn as much about the organization and the players as he can and offer up his opinion and "help some players along the way." (NY Post)

He said that the organization is "pretty much" leaving it up to him to see which part of the organization he is drawn too most and then continue down that path. (NY Post)

Leetch will be with the Rangers in Traverse City and said that he would also like to be on the ice for some practices in Hartford during the season, which is something that Chris Drury did at times last year. (NY Post)

Leetch said that he thinks he can help the Rangers prospects "think a little faster" and see the game in different ways. (Newsday)

He added that he had previously turned down other opportunities to re-join the Rangers but felt that the time was right to re-engage and learn more about the prospects and current players in the organization. (Newsday)

Adam Rotter: I can't find any downside to Brian Leetch being involved at any level of the organization. I'm sure he will spend a bit of time working with his former teammate Lindy Ruff and the Rangers defense, but it seems like Leetch could have a bigger role in helping to shape the future defensemen of the Rangers, guys like Sean Day, Neal Pionk, Ryan Graves, Alexei Bereglazov and others. To have someone who was just recently named as one of the Top 100 NHL Players ever as part of the organization, and working with young players, can only be a benefit.

Does he think he can help the veterans "think a little faster" ? Also (and maybe this is a little harsh), but can he help Staal see the game in 'different ways"?
