1-0 with the Captain back

9 goals in 2 games without Zib

This is true, but, I'd rather have him in the lineup

Totally agree

Joe says that Carolina isn’t a physical team. Yet they crashed Henrik and they knocked Rangers down all game.

McDonagh makes this team much better. Much better. Removing Holden would be even better.

I'm wondering when you start adding some of this stuff up about Henrek’s relationship with other players. Last year the Stepan off the bench to the hash marks for all the world to see telling a Henrek to calm down. That was obviously a issue and Stepan might have been the only guy with the balls to do that. Might have contributed to his ticket out of town but who knows. Henreks body language after goals is terrible and staring down his teammates is not exactly team bonding 101.
Could it be the Rangers don’t stand up for him because they flat out don’t like him and his attitude. The Henrek in the dressing room might just be a self centered plick they don’t want to protect. A pro should never let personal animosity’s interfere with doing his job. But I’ve never seen a team of players let other teams abuse their goalie like Lundqvist gets. Something strange going on. Girardi did the odd time but nobody does a damn thing. All hypothetical but a little strange.

Looks like Hank pulls out another 2 pts, still carries this team for what now 13 years or so. Yeah, those bums should complain. For 13 years he has made a lot of those bums looking good. He has covered up D weakness & mistakes for years making that D looking better than it actually is.

My natural reaction is to dismiss this as impossible because, in my mind, a team could never let their goalie get abused because of personal dislike. But I guess these days anything is possible.

To me and people of my age who grew up when the NHL was much different, touching the goalie was a sign of disrespect towards the opposing TEAM. When they bumped your goalie (or worse) that was a straight up challenge to your team. "We bumped him, what're ya gonna do?" Your goalie could be the biggest ass on the team and owe you money. Doesn't matter. It's about standing up for your TEAM. Never let the other team get the idea that they can do stuff like bump your goalie and not get a response.

I've played with goalies who were jerks. To get back at him we shot high in warmups, pretended it was an accident. "Sorry bro". But if the other team bumped him or got in his crease we acted accordingly.

I played hockey and agree that the rule was nobody touched your goalie or gave him a spray like Faulk did last night. You went out of your way to prevent it from happening, let alone immediately responding if something did happen. You went into games against certain teams and knew it was coming same as your forwards were in the other teams end doing the same thing. It used to be a in your face challenge, and a boost if opponents did nothing. The guy is still the key to the teams success, and to watch him night after night get ran over and often sprayed is beyond belief. Whether its chewey telling the boys to let it happen in the hopes of a penalty which often doesn't get called, as most players who bang goalies are pretty polished at making it look accidental. And a response usually results in a penalty, which in most worlds is a good penalty.
Faulk should have been on his ass last night no question, I think it was Mcdonagh who just stood beside him and looked at Faulk, but Mcdonagh rarely responds to any of that stuff, so I'm not surprised. Watch Wayne Simmonds play him like a marshmallow any time the Flyers play the Rangers. But when the whole group does nothing you shake your head. I personally can not believe a NHL coach instructing players to walk away from that stuff. But as mentioned earlier I can not believe a pro hockey player leaving a goalie out there like that also. I guess when you look at the players its more about them. Smith is probably the only one you would expect to have your back if things got a little tense.

McD also had a very strong game in his return playing almost 23 minutes, and having to be hamstrung by Holden......

And someone referred to him as McRedden.....

I don’t have a lot of problems with McDonaghs game, other than I wish he’d stand up for himself and his goalie.

Lundqvist gets bulled over like that every game it seems..... never a call made.

Typical mindset these days in the New Age NHL.

Who gives a **** about what calls are made?
Someone sniffs at your goalie and you have to respond appropriately.
If the Rangers did that you'd see pretty soon a lot less attacks on Lundqvist.

They're all afraid of the roughing/instigator penalty.

The ref needs to make the call. McDonagh giving someone a face wash isn't going to stop anybody from going hard to the net.

Maybe McDonagh should try it and see, instead of guessing what might happen. I'm willing to bet that the crashing of Henrik gets reduced significantly.

Also, the refs don't automatically penalize a player who defends his goalie. As we saw several times recently, standing up for your teammates, your goalie and yourself often results in coincidental minors.

I blame this passive attitude squarely on AV. B. Smith was quick to respond to these things when he first joined the Rangers, like several players who come here from other teams. Now he's one of the Passive Pansies. That's AV's influence on the players.

A face wash is girls stuff Rob. There are better ways than that to deter someone from crashing the crease. The best method is show some balls and box them out. It’s called battling for your ice in front of the net. You make them pay and it cuts down on the players willing to try it. Right now Tonya Harding would run Lundqvist.

I was the one who mentioned a face wash. It is the weakest form of making a statement, but my point is, the Rangers aren't even willing to do that!
