Rangers (14-10-2, 30 pts) at Penguins (15-10-3, 33 pts)
7:30 PM, PPG Paints Arena
MSG Network; ESPN 98.7 FM

The Game

The Rangers continue their four-game stretch against Metropolitan Division foes when they begin a two-game road trip starting with a visit to the Penguins in Pittsburgh tonight.

New York hasn't played since a 5-1 win Friday night over the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden. Michael Grabner registered a hat trick and Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves to earn his 13th victory of the season.

Lundqvist will get the start tonight in Pittsburgh and no lineup changes are expected from Friday's win.

Mika Zibanejad was at practice on Monday and rode the stationary bike, according to coach Alain Vigneault. There's no timetable for his return to practice or game action.

Tonight marks the second of four meetings between the Rangers and Penguins, with Pittsburgh taking the first game, 5-4, in overtime on Oct. 17 at The Garden.

Pittsburgh enters tonight's game winners of four straight and six of their last 10 games. Pittsburgh swept a home-and-home with Buffalo last weekend by a combined score of 9-1.

Unsurprisingly, Phil Kessel, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are leading the Penguins offensively. Kessel's 33 points are tops, with Crosby's 29 not far behind. Crosby, though, enters the game with a five-game multi-point streak on the line, during which he's scored six goals and 12 points.

Goaltender Tristan Jarry will get the start for Pittsburgh as No. 1 netminder Matt Murray is sidelined with an injury. The 22-year-old has been red-hot as of late with wins in four straight games, including three starts. He hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of those starts, including a shutout over Buffalo last Friday night.

Players to Watch

Lundqvist will make his 15th consecutive start Tuesday night and he's been phenomenal during that stretch with an 11-2 record to go along with a 2.36 GAA and a .927 SV% with one shutout. His 11 wins are the most in the NHL during that span.

Tonight's start will be the 63rd of his career against the Penguins, the most games against any opponent in his NHL career. The Rangers have earned at least a point in 13 of Lundqvist's last 17 appearances against the Penguins dating back to April 3, 2013.

Crosby has been the player to watch in Pittsburgh since he debuted in 2005. After registering just three assists during an 11-game stretch from Oct. 21 through Nov. 11, Crosby has since posted seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in his last nine games, including 12 points in his last five games.

Say What?

"He's a player that you can't really prepare for him. When their team is playing really well, it makes him and Malkin and all those guys extremely hard to cover when the whole team is playing at a high level. With them, as five guys on the ice, you have to be extremely aware and very tight on them all over the ice. If you give them some room, they can make you look stupid." - Marc Staal on Crosby and the Penguins

Rangers Projected Lineup

Chris Kreider - David Desharnais - Pavel Buchnevich
Jimmy Vesey - Kevin Hayes - Rick Nash
Michael Grabner - J.T. Miller - Mats Zuccarello
Paul Carey - Boo Nieves - Jesper Fast

Ryan McDonagh - Nick Holden
Brady Skjei - Kevin Shattenkirk
Marc Staal - Brendan Smith

Inside the Numbers

The Rangers have earned at least one point in 15 of their last 20 games against the Penguins, dating back to Apr. 3, 2013 (9-5-6 record over the span).

Kreider will fight to stay awake tonight.

The Rangers' idea of "nasty" is harsh language and leaving the toilet seat up.

Henrik will keep it close. The Pens have a rookie backup in net. Let's see if the Rangers are up to the challenges this week.

In the first period alone.....

Then again, maybe he rises to the occasion and gets a shutout.....

Well if the Rangers can bang in 4 they will only have to hold Pitt to three shots on goal.

Let’s see if the Rangers protect Andrej when he gets bumped and snowed by Hornquist and other Pens. Do they hate Henrik or are they just passive pansies like AV wants them to be.

Nah, that's AV's game, he is a wimpy coach. He was the same with the Vancouver Schmuks, Bruins bullied their way & rolled over that team all the way to the cup, the twins were abused & no one did anything.

What I have notice when they play the backup be it Raanta, or the others ... they do play more tight, better defensively, not as loose. I think they take it for granted with Hank is there.

Exactly, they are playing conservative hockey, they are clearing the puck as soon as they get it in their own end and not try to make the short break out pass
