Zibanejad on the power play would've been nice.

This game wasn't even close. Really wish we had Barry Trotz instead of AV

Av's fault that shattenkirk gave away 2 goals himself? Lundqvist gets his team behind as soon as the puck drops? Mcdonagh gets roasted for a goal while looking eerily like marc staal in cement skates? Come on, av isnt the best coach but u cant make chicken salad out of chicken **** boys.

Usual suspects?? This would suggest that the same guys are responsible for the loss, and you notice it!! The question is who keeps putting the "usual suspects" out there?

Caps are light years better than us

They're not. That's what's so frustrated. Holtby is overrated and a choker in the playoffs. But he has so much confidence in his defense and weak side coverage that he rushes out at the shooter to smother the angle. Henrik has no such luxury. The Rangers have more overall team talent, especially up front. But the Caps play a hard nose, grinding style that the Rangers always have problems with.

If flu boy doesn't let in a goal with the first shot again, this is a Rangers win.

Or at least potentially. The writting is on the wall, that this team is right in the mix with everyone else in a tough division.

They'll need to make some moves if they want a shot at The Cup, but they're a good team.

Replace Deshernais with Zibanejad

Carey with an upgrade

and maybe another solid Dman

Just the coaching staff. And trade some dead wood on defense and get a physical player who actually plays defense.

Fast is a sniper now, his market value is surging like Amazon stock. Should be able to get a decent backliner for him now.

AV started Shattenkirk tonight, Maybe he thought Shattenkirk would take what Trotz said about him and use it as motivation and come out fired up. Then Shattenkirk makes the boneheaded play and its 1-0 in 14 seconds.

Shattenkirk showed absolutely nothing out there tonight. No Fire, No Battle, No Hustle, No Anything except poor play. He is a letdown for sure

He is the wrong player for this team. There was absolutely no need on the Rangers for a finesse defenseman who doesn't play very physical. They already had 5 of those starting every game. He's in an impossible position and he's doomed to be mediocre at best.

Leading up to his signing there was ample evidence from his playoff performance with the Caps, a team that's well-balanced and physical on defense. Shattenkirk was a disappointment for them. Why AV and/or Gorton thought that coming to the Rangers would "fix" him is beyond me. Especially at the price tag they paid. Could've gotten two decent, physical defensemen for that money spent.

I actually agree with this. But the moves they need start at the top and end with the backline. And there's no way they do either this season. AV has a contract extension and they paid a big balloons for Shatt. They also protected Holden in the expansion draft and still have the Staal contract.

Tinkering around the edges on the 3rd or 4th line ain't gonna cut it.

I have alway thought the Rangers were close. Totally agree as you mentioned earlier PV Shattenkirk was the wrong guy wrong time. He’s just more of the same with some more offence, and all to familiar total defensive miscues. They could start the playoffs with what they have upfront with Zibanejad replacing Desharnais and maybe a replacement on the fourth line who can and would have talked to Wilson tonight, but who can play.
The defense I don’t know what wiggle room they have to do anything. And what good it would do when chewy has Holden on his shut down pair. Shattenkirk is a good piece but all to similar to the rest. He and Skjei haven’t been to bad lately til tonight when Shattenkirk resembled the early season version. McDonagh needs a solid defense first rough tough partner, which would leave chewy with Smith and Staal on the third pair and probably the most expensive in the history of the NHL. But what else can you do.?

Shattenkirk -3.... that is the true colours of the team... a guy playing 2nd pair minutes.... .who could not stop any of us from getting to hank.. he could not check a coat let alone a NHLer.. yes he puts up offensive numbers which when Hank was younger great.. but Hank needs some help as he gets older and ****tenkirk is not it.. and 6 million a season to be a one dimensional player... wow.. Skej is not much better pair them up and all you get is two wingers lost in their own zone... I watched it with Kaberle and McCabe this is version 2.0.. You cant pair them together... I cant believe the players that had to be traded and let go to bring in Smith who is in the press box a lot.. and shattenkirk who is lost most games.. I would rather a team with Girardi.. Duclair ... Stepan and Rantta than the one the one I watched today.. or most of this season.

Smith (and Holden) would be fine if AV would let them play their games -- namely physical play. When Holden first got here, he hit anything that moved and put the body on an opposing player....and everyone noticed that Smith had a much needed edge to his game. Look at them now....they've been deballed by AV.

All the signs pointed toward Shatty being a bad signing. Blues were never a defensive stalwarth...yet they didn't go to great lengths to keep him...of course, he probably made it known he was not staying. Biggest sign was his use in DC...which pretty much mirrored his use in St. Louis. As I stated before, i feel if Hitch wouldn't use him as a top pair, then he wasn't a top pair....as Trotz stated recently and, as we have since discovered. Rangers needed to bolster their defense...if anything, it's worse. Yes, the offensive numbers are fine...but that's only a plus if you're spending more time in the offensive zone. Rangers are still spending WAY too much time in their own zone...most times looking lost with no idea how to get out.

As much as I want him gone, I'm a little scared thinking about what they'd do with the $8M they'd get from dealing Nash.

To me he is a poorer version of Housley. He has to put up points to make up for his D-deficiencies.

To me he is a poorer version of Housley. He has to put up points to make up for his D-deficiencies.
I believe Housley was a better defender.

I think Skjei is a good defender...but, again, our venerable coach puts him in a position to fail.
