No playoffs this year....not good enough bad GM bad coach ....not good enough players

Rangers stupidly banked on Sh!ttykirk making the defense so much better...defense doesn't look any better -- it actually looks worse. And now that they aren't scoring 4-5 goals a game, they (once again) have nothing to fall back on because El Idiot doesn't have a Plan B (much less a clue).

I think this is still a playoff team with a possibility of 1 or 2 rnds only, just like I thought the last few years.

I have no doubt they'll make the playoffs -- that's when the real collapse begins.

Trade AV. Listened to his after game interview and according to him they had a real strong game plan the players just didn’t execute. He is Einstein like smart. Somebody should have asked him if he had any responsibility for the players executing the game plan.

Ottawa plays a 1 - 3 - 1 forecheck which may generate chances off of Rangers turnovers. Holden alone may assist on two Ottawa goals tonight.

But they don't play the tight defense we saw the Stars play the other night. The Rangers may find time and space coming across the blue line IF they can get through the neutral zone cleanly.

Rangers win 4 - 2, empty netter by Grabner.

Hope, IF , May , 1-3-1, MAY NOT. ! Ottawa could have played "tiddlywinks" and the Rangers couldn't stop them.

He did the same move he usually does at the circle when someone is on him. He always circles back at the dot. It's the only thing you see more than Kreider's wrist shot into the chest from the boards.

AV is the greatest coach in the history of November. Counting games on 10/31 and 12/1, the Rangers were 11 - 3 in the month of November. As usual, AV's team racks up the points in the standings in November.

November is over, the mediocre .500 hockey is back. Might be enough to grab a wild card spot and a first or second round exit.

Whoopie

Why do people insist on putting the defensive disaster on Ruff? He's only following orders. As bad as the defense was last year, I don't recall people calling for Beuk's head -- probably because it was clear who was calling the shots.

But what is he going to do. Drawing up defensive plans in the dirt would be better than whatever this team does. I'm not sure the personnel matter at this point. The plan seems to be cover nobody and hope to clear the rebound to their defender waiting at the blue line so they can get another shot. Or always chase behind the net with 2 guys and leave your opponent open in front, the goalie will get him. My favorite is all 5 guys go to one side to cover 2 guys. Hank will take care of the other 3.

Which game was this?

As for who's calling the shots: Here's a clue -- he chews gum all game.

No the personnel do not matter....I can't figure out what they're doing...yet, AV was so sure of himself in the off season when he boldly stated there would be absolutely no changes in the defense scheme. That's the truest statement he's made since he got here.

When all is said and done, I still have to wonder just how much of the decision making is actually Gorton's. Buying out Girardi and promptly giving that money to the newest FA bauble has Sather written all over it.

The goal in the Dallas game. I may be exaggerating how many Dallas had open(maybe 5-3 with 2 on the other side) but the results are what they are. You actually see McDonagh who is the closest guy directing one of the forwards to go cover while he stands there and does nothing.

Going back to the defense (or lack thereof), saw this in Brooks article today....

"From Ulf Samuelsson to Jeff Beukeboom to Lindy Ruff, the identity of the assistant coach in charge of defense doesn’t seem to have the slightest effect on the blue line’s propensity for over-pursuit of the puck at the expense of protecting the front of the net. For better or worse, this must be by design of head coach Alain Vigneault.

Yes, J.T. Miller allowed his man, Zack Smith, to get position in front on Ottawa’s 3-1 goal eight seconds into the third period of Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat. But why would Skjei leave the front — while pointing and likely yelling to Miller to pick up the vacated area — to join Shattenkirk in pursuit of Tom Pyatt after the winger had beaten No. 22 down the left side off the opening draw? Skjei tried to block the pass, but had he held his ground, there would not have been an open man to receive it.

This is the rule, not the exception to how the Rangers have defended for years. I just don’t get it."

I read that to and shook my head at Brooks, the two dmen behind the net and forwards doing a poor job of covering the front of the net crap has been going on since chewy got here. Nice of Brooks to finally notice.
