Rangers (21-14-5, 47 pts) at Coyotes (10-27-5, 25 pts)
8 pm; Gila River Arena
MSG Network; ESPN 98.7 FM

The Game

New York heads west for the first time this season to open a back-to-back set in the desert, starting tonight when they face the Coyotes in Arizona.

The Blueshirts dropped their first game following the Winter Classic earlier this week, 5-2 against the Blackhawks at Madison Square Garden. Nick Holden and Mika Zibanejad both scored in that game while Henrik Lundqvist set a new career-high in making at least 30 saves in eight consecutive games.

Lundqvist is expected to get the start for the Rangers tonight.

While no lineup changes are expected, coach Alain Vigneault did shuffle his lines a bit at practice on Friday. Pavel Buchnevich was moved up to the top line alongside Zibanejad and J.T. Miller, while Mats Zuccarello shifts down to a line with Kevin Hayes and Michael GrabnerDavid Desharnais will center Rick Nash and Jimmy Vesey, while the fourth line of Boo Nieves between Paul Carey and Jesper Fast remains intact.

Tonight is the second and final meeting between the Rangers and Coyotes, with the Rangers taking the first game, 5-2, on Oct. 26 at MSG that included Nieves recording three assists in his NHL debut.

The Coyotes enter tonight's game with the worst record in the NHL at 10-27-5, with just 25 points, though they are coming off a 3-2 victory over the powerful Nashville Predators.

Rookie Clayton Keller has led the Coyotes offensively this season with team-highs in goals with 14, assists with 18 and points with 32, but he's also a minus-21. That's been the problem for the Coyotes this season. Former Ranger Derek Stepan is second on the team with 25 points in 41 games, but is a minus-18 after being a plus-109 for his career in New York.

The Coyotes have surrendered the second-most goals in the NHL this season at 148, trailing just the Islanders' 154.

Former Ranger Antti Raanta is 6-11-2 with Arizona, with a 2.82 GAA and a .915 SV%. Fellow netminder Scott Wedgewood is 4-7-3.

Players to Watch

Miller will get his first look alongside the duo of Zibanejad and Buchnevich, two players who have played extensively together since the start of last season. The move comes against a team Miller has had success against, albeit in a small sample size. The winger has five points in eight games against the Coyotes, including a point in four of his last five, with three goals during that span.

Keller has certainly been the bright spot on what would be considered a difficult year in the desert. The 19-year-old has been the team's most consistent forward, especially of late, with an eight-game point streak that was snapped Thursday against the Predators. Keller had three goals and six assists during that span. He's a lock to be in the Calder Trophy discussion as the League's best rookie, as he's currently third in scoring among first-year players.

Say What?

"They're super talented so I have to stick to my game. I can't get into a skill game. I've got to make sure I'm getting onto the forecheck and getting the puck back to those two." J.T. Miller on playing alongside Zibanejad and Buchnevich

Rangers Projected Lineup

J.T. Miller - Mika Zibaneajd - Pavel Buchnevich
Michael Grabner - Kevin Hayes - Mats Zuccarello
Jimmy Vesey - David Desharnais - Rick Nash
Paul Carey - Boo Nieves - Jesper Fast

Ryan McDonagh - Nick Holden
Brendan Smith - Kevin Shattenkirk
Brady Skjei - Marc Staal

Injuries: Chris Kreider (blood clot) out indefinitely

Inside the Numbers

The Rangers have won each of their last eight games against the Coyotes, dating back to Mar. 24, 2014. The Rangers' active eight-game winning streak against the Coyotes is their longest winning streak against the Jets/Coyotes franchise in the Blueshirts' franchise history. New York has tallied three or more goals in each of the eight contests, including four or more goals in seven of the eight games, and the Rangers have outscored the Coyotes, 35-16, during the eight-game winning streak.

I was about to say I liked the lines, until I read this. I guess this means they move Fast up with Grabner & Hayes, and Lettieri is on the 4th line.

AV is not a good coach...He is going to run Henrik into the ground to try to save his job

Because losing to a last place team might get AV canned, even though Pav has played great lately.
