no more albatross contracts to UFA's on the back end of their career that you end up buying out. Do it right. I have no prob with Kovy because he is still a very good player...

You do realize you've just contradicted yourself bigtime.

If Nash wants to come back fine....

Another dumb move....most teams (probably every team BUT the NYR) make it a habit of NOT bringing back major disappointments. As a matter of fact, those teams go as far as they can in the opposite direction.

Contradicted myself where? Where am I giving someone a 7 year contract at 7 mil per? was it to Jagr?

I said before the trade deadline I had no problem with the UFA's being traded, for futures and like Gorton's work on getting it done. I didn't want to see a young and inconsistent forward like Miller traded until a new coach came in and he along with Kreider, Zibanejad, Buchnevich got a chance to perform under a new set of eyes and play within a different system. If they continued to exhibit the warts we see, well then you move them. All a part of the two part rebuild it looks like the Rangers are doing. I don't mind Zucc going at the draft with his age and all, but trading any of the other afore mentioned players better be a homerun for the Rangers. Kreider in particular is a guy who I think his best hockey is still ahead of him, and under a new coach with a letter on his jersey, might still become the player he should be. And provide the necessary leadership Concust mentioned all teams need. One thing to remember about Kreider is he's never had the opportunity to play with a top center, and if and when he does his numbers which have never been bad will go up accordingly. Personally I believe in Kreider and think he just needs a decent center to play with.
I hear ya on Kreider...but there has been WAY too many nights you dont even know he's playing....I think its time to cash him in

Couple year contract at reasonable term is not an albatross

Im fine with Nash going away forever....but if he does come back at a VERY reasonable discount...so what
There's no conceivable discount in existence that would justify Nash disgracing a NYR uniform again.

Also, PM did not go to a team that has just announced to its fans that it was rebuilding/retooling....Marleau was signed as a missing piece.

Do you honestly believe he'd put up the same numbers with here (a) where the talent level is a notch or two below what the Leafs have and (b) where the coach is a brain dead moron?

Who knows? He is 38 and was signed as a UFA and is doing good....Grabner has scored a bunch of goals playing for our brain dead coach...To say never give a 35+ a contract ever...is foolish

Yeah, who cares if he's still a world class player who would be our leading scorer..... The only thing that matters is he's not in his 20's

If he can't potentially be here for the next decade, it's not worth it

Team next year going to look much different than how it looks now. Whether we like it or not, but they will add veterans players. So Kovalchak, Nash, Grabner or someone else, they will add . I can bet that is what is going to happen.

I'm not a big fan of bringing any of our old players back, or other big name UFAs like Kovy or J
VR. Now if somebody like that is willing to come on a two year deal that would be ok but it seems unlikely.
