I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue
If it’s any consolation it will be on sale next week.
My tent is ready.

Ok I will come over and start to sniff glue again
Tent is meant for BEST BUY shoppers but in this case it’s GLUE

I'll tell you this much, buckle up for a few dry years. We may not be good again for 3 or 4 years. I was wrong in thinking we were rebooting, we are 100% rebuilding. We have a ton of young dmen now. Now we need some high end forward talent. And we need to hope Igor is the real deal in goal. If so we could be a real threat in 3 or 4 years.

Kravtsov, Shestyorkin, and Rykov all come over together this time next year

The torture is mostly over.
If we do miss in the next round selections then it was given though we missed in the FIRST round selections which also was given.

And three picks later St. Louis trades up with a two pick later first and the 76 freaking pick. Gorton gives up the 48 pick. Not so good Jiffy.

So to recap.... we got a bad ass 6'3 power forward being compared to Kuznetsov and Kovalev
We take a big 6'3 best two way American defenseman.... USA hockey has him listed at 6'5 with some serious wheels
And a RHD puck mover who played more games and scored more points in the SHL than Boqvist, and is world's better defensively...

Both of our new Dmen did well at the combine, too.

But fire Gorton..... because some bs mock drafts....

Based on what? Mock drafts? The Russian looks really good. Better hands and speed than Zadina Tkachuk or Wahlstrom.

The only reason he was ranked 12th instead of in the top 10 is because he's a Russian playing in Russia.... we have to wait a year till we see him over here.

Yo you guys are nuts, this guy is really good! Better than Wahlstrom? I just don't know.... but fantastic dynamic forward

Everyone had Wahlstrom rated better than this guy. Many places had Wahlstrom top 5.Headscratching and disappointing.Particularly when there were 3 guys there at #9 that I wanted and 2 of them went to the friggin Island.

QFT. Well said!

+1

We're obviously not the only team to make a surprising choice(s).
But I'm quite disappointed that the Isles did what I'd have liked to see us doing...

Here's my take. We have way too many dmen prospects. We have way too many RFA's to sign them all. We have nearly 30 mill in cap space. Gorton has to be active today/over the next 8 or 9 days. If he is not we are going to field a team of mostly kids that will be a lower level team next season. I have to think some moves to improve are coming. It is difficult to rebuild without top 3 picks, so if that is his only plan we may be bad for 3 or 4 years at least.

I will also add, the trade he made last night was terrible. Said it at the time, and say it again now in the light of day. To deal a mid-2nd rounder to move up 4 spots to # 22 is ridiculous really. Double so when you consider the Blues dealt a pick in the 70's to move up 4 spots to 25. That was an awful move by Gorton, he WAY overpaid. The only saving grace is he must really like Miller to give up a valuable pick like that to move up a mere 4 spots in the 20's.

Gorton needs to get his stick on the ice and start improving this team, not just with 17 and 18 year olds that are 3 years away from making an impact.

Yeah not only did he like Miller, but The Wild took a defenseman at 24 and Ottawa who we traded with also too a defenseman at 26.... based on who ottawa picked at 26, I don't think they drafted for best player.

So The Rangers got their guy. Maybe they overpaid, but the pick could be expendable depending what Gorton has up his sleeve for today.

Namestnikov could get us that pick back, or some other trade in the works.

I don't know how trading on the floor works for sure, but something tells me these GMs have talked to eachother prior to being on the clock

I will tell you this also, if this is the plan you might as well deal Hayes and Zucc now also. What is the point of keeping them? Sure you can say a vet presence to mentor kids, but you might as well deal them now and get solid value if you are fielding a team of 18 year olds. Let Kreider and Ziban be mentors.

We made no big moves to move up. All the chatter is we are not going to be big players for the big names. Seems like we are clearly staying the course for the rebuild. That is fine, but if that is going to be the case then let's deal Hayes and Zucc also. I don't see the value of keeping them here for this. I guess you can deal Zucc at the trade DL, but then you risk injury and poor play. So do it now.

I will add, I agree we need to see how the next 8 or 9 days play out, but if the chatter is correct and what appears to be happening plays out, then move on from those guys as well. And while it won't happen, you have to wonder what is in Hank's head if he sees yeah this is going to be a multi year thing we will be below average at best. Does he say it is time to see if any other team wants him.

My issue with#22 is the film shown was k’andre playing football. It is demoralizing when the best clips of the hockey player you drafted are him on a FOOTBALL field! The Islanders likely did not get bossey and potvin but like their two better than our three.

Why didn’t we hire that Pesani guy to be the Coach? We are going to need an interpreter....So Gordie Clark has been such a miserable failure drafting North American kids....now he is trying his hand at drafting Foreigners....now Gorton....Stepan trade is atrocious right now ....when are they going to ask themselves “why is it when we go outside the box it never works” Gordie has been running the show for some 12 years and his 1’s that panned out are outnumbered by his busts

A blurb about Gorton, his trade up sucked. Could he have drafted bouchard or dobson and then got up to 12 or so and still got the Russian? We will never know.

Loser: Jeff Gorton

The Rangers' general manager entered Friday with three first-round picks — three more than five other teams — and the way he used them was a bit puzzling. Such ample ammunition could have helped the Blueshirts move up from No. 9 in pursuit of a blue-chip player the organization lacks. Instead, they stood pat and selected Russian forward Vitali Kravtsov, whom most draftniks had rated farther down the draft board. They passed on more well-rounded prospects such as Oliver Wahlstrom and Noah Dobson (who both went to the rival Islanders a few picks later). Gorton then parted with the No. 48 pick to move up four spots in Round 1 and draft K'Andre Miller. The pick was fine, but then Rangers fans watched as the Blues spent only a third-rounder to trade up four spots with the Leafs a few picks later. In general, Gorton did a poor job managing his assets.
