I know many people will be angry that he did not go... and some are happy he stayed. I love the guy he has been great for the franchise but not sure why he would stay unless the turn around they are talking about is a 2-year plan to retool and reload and put a championship... or the start of a championship team together. At 36 he is still very good... but not the Hank of old and certainly with the D in front of him I do not see a lot of help coming his way... Shattenkirk and Skeji have NO CLUE what to do in their own zone and they are logging (or will log when Shattenkirk is healthy again) a LOT of minutes on either the first or second pairing.

I think it is time for him to move to a team who is on the way up and could use an upgrade in net that might help them push to another level. If you look at these playoffs.. I think Colorado for sure would have benefitted from Hank. Philly as well as for teams out of the playoffs.. Chicago, St Louis, Dallas, and Calgary could have benefitted from having him in the lineup. I think the last four could have been in the playoffs if he is in net over their starters.. (Dallas may be an exception with Bishop)

from TSN

https://www.tsn.ca/nyr-offered-to-move-lundqvist-in-february-1.10616...

Henrik Lundqvist has spent his entire 13-year NHL career with the New York Rangers, but he was given the option to make a change earlier this year.

Madison Square Garden executive chairman Jim Dolan told the New York Post the Rangers offered to move Lundqvist ahead of the trade deadline if he didn't want to be a part of the team's impending rebuild.

“We told Hank that if he didn’t want to ride it out through this process, we’d find a good landing place for him,” Dolan told Larry Brooks of the Post. “But he said that he wanted to stay and see it through.

“I’m very happy that’s the way he feels. I think with him at the top of his game, that gives us our best chance of competing for a playoff spot next year.”

The Rangers announced their intentions to enter into a rebuild in an open letter to fans in February and soon after the team parted with multiple key pieces including the captain .

The 36-year-old Lundqvist finished the season with a 26-26-7 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average. The 2012 Vezina Trophy winner enjoyed a dominant stretch from November to mid-January, posting a .932 save percentage, but he could only carry the team so far.

“I think Hank was able to keep us in the playoff race when we probably didn’t really belong there the way the team was playing,” Dolan said. “Having him in place gives us a great foundation going forward.”

The Rangers said in February their goal is to bring in "young, competitive players that combine speed, skill and character." The team is reportedly on the verge of signing 23-year-old Swedish forward Michael Lindqvist.

Interesting trade scenario between Toronto and NYR sending Lundqvist for Nylander

Panarin Nylander Kravtsov
Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Vesey Chytil Zuccarello
Andersson Howden Fast

Would be a nice lineup next season

If you send Lundqvist there and take Nylander and Marleau who has 2 years on his contract. That probably works. That being said. I'd rather Hank win a cup with us as a 42 year old backup. I want to see him play his entire career here and he's the only Ranger I can say that about. Leetch IMO dogged it many years. I know that upsets fans but I stick by it. I was thrilled when they dumped him. Graves also. The problem is not Hank. The Hank/Shesterkin thing will work itself out. The issue is Gorton moving Spooner, Namestnikov, Staal and Smith. If he can make that happen, then things are better.

If I see Hank going anywhere, it's San Jose. It'd take some work to fit everything under the cap but I could see that happening. They need someone better than Jones, he ain't cuttin' it.

But that's if Lundqvist ultimately decides to leave, which I don't see happening.

I don't see the Leafs ever making that deal. Sure they need an upgrade in goal, and Lundqvist would be an upgrade, but IMO, at this stage of his career, he'd be a modest one.

They wouldn't give up Nylander for a modest upgrade in goal.

I think it has to be Hank (salary retained) plus Andersson and a good defense prospect to get them to not hang up on you.

Rangers NEED a #1 center. Zib aint it, Hayes aint it and should be gone by the deadline anyway. Howden and Chytil may develop into a 2nd line center type. Anderson is not a 1st line center, and on this team he has Zib, Howden, and Chytil ahead of him.

Make Anderson part of a package to bring in a 1st line center. Something like Nylander, Howden, and Chytil looks pretty good for the future at center for the guys in blue.

The talk was a proposed trade with Toronto..

YOU brought up JVR.....

Looked like you were implying that JVR could be part of the return.

Thought you needed to be reminded that JVR no longer plays for Toronto, after all you do need some reminding at times.

Leafs ain’t trading Nylander for Lundqvist unless the Rangers sweeten the deal. And if your aim is a true number one center I think Nylander falls short. If your beefing up your top end of the lineup then he’s your guy but head to head against other top centres, i’ll Believe it when I see it. I’m also not so sure Toronto would feel Lundqvist is that much of a upgrade, it’s more hockey writer fueled BS rumours.
I also expect Lundqvist to be traded this season, his blame game dramatics starting already is surprising, but as soon as he figures out a lot of long nights may be on the horizon he might think a move to a contender is a good idea. If a team really thought he was the answer he still might fetch a good return.
