Who they got back, I forget?

Esa Tikkanen....and even worse...when the Oil came to town to play us...Weight had to go to the visitors dressing room....HIDEOUS trade

Do we win the cup with Weight in there instead of Tikkanen?

Yes! but we were the best team in the NHL that year.... we did not need to make all of those moves.....and we traded our entire next generation Rangers...we paid for that for at least 10 years

The year we traded for Tikk...we missed the playoffs, so we were far from the best team that year.

'93-'94

Esa scored 22g 32a
Weight scored 24g 50a

The Oilers didn't make the playoffs... Tikkanen had 4g 4a

Yeah, I think they still win The Cup

Hard to say if they win the Cup with Weight or Gardner, even though they were having great years... some players are playoff clutch and some aren't. Tik took a lot opposing players off their games.

How was Weight's playoff carreer ? 97 games, 23 goals, ... not great, his name is on the cup for 06... in 23 playoff games that year he had 3 goals.

Going forward with Weight, Amonte, Marchant, Nordstrom along with Leetch , Graves, Kovalev, Beuk, Mess, Richter etc...We would have been a dam good hockey team for many years....Instead we went to pot

We got close with #99.

But I agree... we sold our soul to the Devil... But that's what it took to slay the dragon or the Curse !!! LOL.

What will it take to break Sam Nosen's new curse "and this one will last a lifetime" ?

I agree it was do everything humanly possible trade wise to win that Cup. Especially with Leetch, Richter, Kovalev and Messier at their best. The aftermath was predictable but necessary to obtain the pieces to win. I think people forget how close that final game came to overtime and then what. I'll take the cup. I also think Smith's management skills went down the toilet after the cup with a boatload of very questionable moves.

My opinion is that if we hold on to Weight, Amonte, Marchant, Norstrom, we do not win the Cup in 94. These guys were all great in their own regard but remember, in 94 they were not half the players they turned out to be. (Amonte was pretty close but had an off year)

So 94 would have been another premature exit. However if these guys hung around and began contributing in addition to Messier, Leetch, Kovalev, Graves, PLUS Gretzky, then my guess is that we would have a much better shot at winning multiple Cups from 96-99. This would have been when the older guys were in their late prime, and the younger guys were entering their prime. Also Richter was at the top of his game in those years.

Hindsight is 20/20. I'll take 94 any day of the week.

I'm not sold on Weight and Gartner, though

There's no way of knowing for sure, but I think The Rangers would've been just fine with Weight and Gartner instead of Tikkanen and Andersson

I think if we don't make the trades we made in 94, we don't get past the devils to advance to the Finals...

Kevin Lowe and Marty McSorley might be available via free agency since they are over 35 and haven’t played in last few years.
I mean what we have got to lose?A season or two?

It’s 1994 in 2018.

Hard to say. Don't underestimate the value of a little sandpaper in the lineup, especially in that era. It was a different game then.

For those that watch the coach interviews on NYR Web Site ... does he seem irritated already, about to loose it? Ha ha it seems that way to me 3 games into the season. Welcome to NY! Welcome to the Rangers!

Amonte got us Noonan and Matteau. We keep Amonte and there is no "Matteau! Matteau! Matteau Stephane Matteau!" and no Cup.
