Oh and we do have a new coach.
I saw it on MSG just recently.
Too much water is my first observation.
He has to make sure to have a bathroom dedicated just to him and close enough to the bench. The Rhode Island life as he new it is no more.
This is New York City!

If you ask me he is crazy to leave that job @ a great hockey school in the area where he grew up & lives & doesn't really get challenged & questioned & critisized to take a job in the NHL (ave 3-4 years tops) & on top of that with the Rangers. If you ask me, you're crazy.

Quinn is not a slam dunk, nobody ever is. His resume is not riddled with championships. His AHL Lock Erie Monster's coaching stint included only one first round playoff exit in three years, as a Pro head coach. . Without digging into his available roster at the time I'll assume the roster was not good enough and hope he did a very good job with what he had.
Subscribing to the theory a monkey is better than Vigneault, and seeing and reading some of Quinn's interviews I have hope he can do a good job. College hockey, and NHL Hockey are a lot different and Quinn will have to figure it out quick.
One of the things I read in one of his interviews and I'd never really thought had changed, is the NHL has evolved into a league where there is a lot of development involved in the coaching of the young players. In the "old" days, you could either play or you were gone. Today teams are willing to have young players eating up minimal cap space on the bottom end of the roster, filled with promise but requiring further development. The Rangers have their share and that should fit right in Quinn's wheelhouse. I have little doubt about Quinn's ability to develop players, but some about his ability to successfully negotiate the planning to successfully get through a NHL season and playoffs. High on his list will be balancing practice time and rest. I wish him well, the Ranger players need some good coaching and planning and here's hoping he can provide it.

I agree. From all I'm hearing and reading, Quinn's biggest asset is development of young players --- something that has been lacking in this organization for decades. It's going to take 1-2 years to realy see what these kids can do.

Regarding the "old" days comment -- again, you are correct. The difference is that roster spots were minimal then and it was usually exceptional prospects that got onto the roster (another difference is the youngster was given the ice time to see what he had -- not glued to the bench or pressbox because of a mistake). Today, there are just too many teams,. the result of which is that there is a great deal of marginal talent, many of whom would not be in the NHL otherwise.

(On a side note -- I've had this feeling that Rangers had their eye on Quinn for a number of years; moreso now that I've learned how long he and Gorton (and Drury) have been friends and talking. But that's just me.)

The fun fact I like is that Mike Sullivan interviewed for the BU coaching position the same time Quinn did.... BU chose Quinn over Sullivan

First off.. Hayes talking to Quinn is more than he ever interacted with AV for 3-4 years.

" He holds everyone accountable, old guys, new guys, he's not playing favorites with anyone, older guys should hold younger guys accountable, and the same the other way as well, and that's going to be something new in this organization, and he's going to be the ring leader of that." HAYES.

Sounds like the basics of coaching.... But I guess AV had an other game plan.

Chewy relies on having real good players that can do it on their own. If they require instructions he’s hooped.

He didn’t have enough pairs of twins to win the SC.

David Quinn and Doug Weight were both on the '91-'92 Binghamton Rangers.... Weight's rookie season with NYR.

Being that Weight has been canned by Lamoriello, I see him as a candidate for running The Rangers' offense
