Should be interesting to say what happens with Tavares ....I say no way he goes back to Isles

my guess Tavares ends up in Toronto. Pretty much grew up right outside of Toronto and it is one of the teams he's interviewing with. If he wants to play with a contender, what better place

Yep totally

1 year 15 mill or 7 or 8 years north of $10 mill per. Do the math he’s a financial fool to go to Toronto insured for future earnings or not. . Toronto has Marner and Mathews contracts coming up and that will change a lot. He’s going to get offered a bucket load of long term security in all of the locations except from the sounds of it with Toronto and a one year deal, for that he’d have to really like Toronto.

He'd have to take a discount to fit in their long term cap, but, if he can bring a cup to Toronto he'll be a god.

You'd be correct if math was the only factor.

I bet San Jose ends up being really appealing to him. Strong club, good ownership, management, leadership, and it's about as far away from Long Island as you can get.

I can predict the responses already, but here it goes,

Rick Nash has about 5 teams who are heavily interested in his services. That's enough to create enough of a bidding war to exclude the Rangers.

Miller resigns with TB 5-years at 5.25 per (limited NTC). I don't see how they afford Tavares. I think he said he's not coming to TB.

Rick Nash is mulling retirement...per reports

I did see this, my gut is that if he's considering retirement it's concussion-related, or at least the head injuries are a factor in the decision. He's still a good player at the right price so I don't think it's ability-related.

Hope he's ok.

Trade Sergachev and Callahan to NYR for a 3rd round pick. Sign Tavares. Islanders cry. Everyone happy

They can have him. I was never a big fan. He takes too many games off, shows up only he wants, & never there when needed most. He has like 3 playoff goals in like 50 or 60 games. See ya....

I hope no Grabner, he is so far from the type of player to fit Quinn's prototype. Quinn says he wants a team that's hard to play against, enough on Grabner. He will need to land with chewy's next destination to have any success. his stay in New Jersey, Toronto and the Island is a lot more indicative of the type of player he is.

Do you think Gorton will trade Ziban or Hayes? To me that is the biggest question heading into this weekend. You'd think the C's this season will be Ziban or Hayes, Chytil, Andersson and Boo or Name or Spoon or Howden. I'd almost say the smart play would be to deal one of Ziban or Hayes. And personally all things being equal I deal Ziban.

I get Ziban is a R shot, and we are badly lacking those, but I don't think that would be a reason I'd keep him over Hayes. To me Hayes is the more complete player, he is better 5 on 5, and I think there may be more long term upside/value with Hayes, and he is durable as well.

The other big key is contract. Assuming Hayes would take a similar deal to Ziban's I'd keep Hayes. If he is looking to break the bank I keep the cost certainty of Ziban.

Interesting question, but I do think I'd deal one of them to make some room for another kid (specifically Chytil and Andersson).

So if we trade Zib, who steps in as #1 C? Hayes is not a 1C. Is Chytil ready for 1C? Probably not. Here are the top C free agents. Aside from JT, I don't see any of these stepping into a 1C role...

JOHN TAVARES, C, 27
PAUL STASTNY, C, 32
JOE THORNTON, C, 38
TYLER BOZAK, C, 32
RILEY NASH, C, 29
VALTTERI FILPPULA, C, 34
MARK LETESTU, C, 33
DEREK RYAN, C, 31
RILEY SHEAHAN, C, 26
TOMAS PLEKANEC, C, 35
JAY BEAGLE, C, 32

I am with you Red. And I would add, does it matter who is the # 1 C this coming season? Clearly we are focused on the future. The hope is a trio of Chytil, Andersson and Hayes or Ziban would be a darn good group of C's 1 or 2 years from now (add Howden in to that mix as well). Not sure it is about this coming season, at least the moves we have seen from the trade DL on have indicated that.

One of Zib/Hayes needs to be traded. Additionally they will probably be looking at trading one of Namestnikov and Spooner.

Personally I would trade Zbad instead of Hayes, even though he's the more skilled player. Zbad has some concussion history already, and he doesn't score nearly as well at 5v5 than Hayes. Also last couple of years, Hayes was deployed in a more two way role which suppressed his numbers, and he still put up great 5v5 numbers.

I don't know what the plan is for Names/Spooner but I think one of them needs to go to make some room. They're both young and talented so we should get some interest. I had hoped that these guys could have been moved before the draft but that didn't happen. They do need to be moved soon though, before other teams get their rosters set.

Hayes can be a 1C. Is he going to be an elite 1C? No, but news flash - we're not an elite team next year. Let Hayes draw those matchups, he's defensively competent enough to let his wingers work. Focus on development for this year, I'd call this year a success if, after the season, we've identified a handful of young players who will be the start of the new core. If we just dork around all year and win a couple games and lose a bunch and no one really steps up, then the rebuild is in trouble.

According to the article, Rangers are looking for character players to mentor younger players. Gorton specifically mentioned Nash, Grabner and Holden. Of the three, I'd take Grabner.

If it's strictly about mentoring, Nash would be best. Personally I'd move on from all 3.

I don't know if any of those 3 would want to be a mentor with little shot to win anything. I see Nash signing with a team that has a legit chance of winning. He's won nothing thus far and may want an actual shot at the cup.

Grabner I can see wanting to go to the team that gives him the best offer financially. I bet he knows who he is and what he can/will do, 3rd/4th liner for an uptempo team.

Holden, same thing, but with guaranteed playing time for the best $$$.
