![]() Legend Posts: 13225 ![]() Location: New Jersey | https://nypost.com/2018/06/27/sniping-rangers-prospect-steals-the-sh... Ville Meskanen put 3 pucks in the net in a scrimmage... one in the shootout. Gotta keep an eye on him and Lindqvist... Brooks says we're interested in Grabner.... Most interesting is he reports Rangers could be in on Tavares.... not to take him, but agree to take on salary in order for a team to sign him. We eat part of his salary for a couple seasons, and they give us some draft picks or something.... or we take on a bad contract of theirs. And in return, we get Tavares off The Island, and out of the division... Edited by robstones 2018-06-27 9:25 PM

Legend Posts: 15937 ![]() | According to the article, Rangers are looking for character players to mentor younger players. Gorton specifically mentioned Nash, Grabner and Holden. Of the three, I'd take Grabner. So, let me get this straight: they want a team that plays tough and is tough to play against? So WHY would they want Nash "mentoring" them to play like cream puffs?

Whether it's part of the Tavares deal or not, the Rangers have two INCREDIBLY valuable assets in their back pocket - time and cap space. They should absolutely be looking at taking a bad contract off someone's hands, in return for a real asset. (They already started exploring this by taking Belesky) Just make sure it expires before we expect to get competitive.

(They already started exploring this by taking Belesky) Just make sure it expires before we expect to get competitive. If you're a contender, every little bit of cap space helps. And if you're a contender, you have one or two guys who isn't producing to the level of their cap hit. So let's say, TB wants to sign Tavares and reunite him with Stamkos, and there's mutual interest. TB can't fit him under their cap, so they need to shed the Callahan contract. NYR steps in and says we'll take the Callahan contract, but in return, we get a draft pick or a prospect or whatever. Rangers take on the last two years of Callahan's contract and get a prospect or draft pick, TB clears off enough cap space to sign Tavares. Similar deals happen all the time... one of the things that facilitated the Nash trade was us taking on the Belesky contract in return.

MVP Posts: 6803 ![]() | Beleskey is intriguing and could be a good fit on the fourth line. If Smith makes good on coming back as a effective and useful third pair guy, then that’s a start to stiffening the Rangers up. IMO one one more gritty guy to make sure nobody is running kids and that’s a good start. Then let the young guys learn to out battle the other guy instead of trying bullsit smoke and mirrors. Teams that compete the hardest usually win. Edited by Rranger 2018-06-28 9:39 PM

All-Star Posts: 2781 ![]() Location: NJ | Brandl was that 99 draft, right? It was rated the worst draft ever. Brandl was rated top 5 by all scouts. Also, rumors were he started drinking too much. Duke as I remember had a knock on him that he will never put it together, doesn't work hard to be an NHLer.

Similar deals happen all the time... one of the things that facilitated the Nash trade was us taking on the Belesky contract in return. With regards to TB and picking up a contract (or 2) if they sign Tavares, a couple of contracts they may be looking to move are Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn. Think I'd much rather have Killorn than Callahan, even if his contract has 5 years left at 4.45 per AAV. Plays hard, can PK and is also a pain in the butt every time the Rangers play them. still just 28yo so could be part of the rebuild at a controlled amount. Johnson - think I'd stay away. His contract is a year longer at 5.0 per AAV and while a year younger, his numbers are trending downward already. Also, while Killorn is 6'1, 200lbs, Johnson is 5'8, 180ish. Not sure they'd send a draft pick along too, but Killorn could also be that character guy/mentor they're looking for as well. JMHO
