I wonder if he ever lived up to the #1 over all pick. He is not Stefan or Daigle or that Russian player Oils picked, but not a game changer you expect from #1 over all.

His first 5 years were on shytty Col teams that were far from the playoffs and in his 6th year they were out in 4 games. He never had the support and was the only focus for the other teams every night. There was no Malkin or Fleury or anything even close riding shotgun. The next time he got into the playoffs was 4 years later and he was with the Rangers and 28 years old, his 10th year. His career is worthy of the #1 pick.

3 40 goal seasons
5 30 goal seasons on top of that

15 seasons averages to be a 32g 25a per year player

While that's not incredible, no one from the 2002 draft class comes anywhere near that kind of production.

Alex Semin and Alex Steen are the next tier, and Duncan Keith should've went 2nd overall instead of 2nd round (54)..... 14 defenders were drafted before Keith in 2002 including one by Chicago in the 1st round!

Guy was a great player once. It's a shame the dumbass Jackets couldn't build around him sooner. He played his ass off here. Shame his shot went. Miller, Stepan, Kreider, Hayes and Buchnevich could learn something from his effort. If they played as hard as he did each game they would be 60+ point guys each year.

And what does Nash being a Ranger or not now have to do with anything you said? The thread is about Nash. You randomly interjected the next inane thought that entered the vast vapor space between your ears.

I guess the Trouba voice in your ear was taking a momentary nap.

There's a quote from an Aaron Portzline article that suggests he's not ready to retire yet...

“There’s a chance I could get healthy, come back and be great. But there’s definitely a chance that I don’t.”

His agent put out a statement saying there's no truth to the report.

Realistically though, if he was healthy enough and wanted to be on an NHL roster, on a sweetheart deal, he could choose his destination. If none wanted him and he wanted to play, he'd be in Switzerland or something. It sure looks like he will retire soon, but it'll be on his timeline.

He says in The Athletic article that basically he's suffering Concussion like symptoms still and that he's waiting to see after he feels better. Sounded like he misses playing still, so think is more about not being healthy than anything, though he may elect to retire at the end of it
