BLUES (41-27-8) at RANGERS (29-34-13)

7 p.m. ET; MSG, FS-MW+, NHL.TV

The Game

The St. Louis Blues will clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs by getting at least one point against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

The Blues would also clinch if the Arizona Coyotes lose in any fashion against the Colorado Avalanche later Friday.

St. Louis is third in the Central Division, two points behind the Nashville Predators and four points behind the first-place Winnipeg Jets. The Blues have won four in a row and they're 5-0-1 in their past six games.

The Rangers have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. They have lost back-to-back games and are 1-6-0 in their past seven.

Players to watch

Rangers center Mika Zibanejad scored two goals in a 6-3 loss against the Boston Bruins to reach 30 goals in a season for the first time in his career.

Ryan Strome has scored three times in the last four games; he has 15 goals since joining the Rangers in November, the most goals any player who has been traded during 2018-19 has scored for his new team.

Blues forward Zach Sanford has points in four straight games (one goal, four assists).

Vladimir Tarasenko is one goal shy of reaching 30 goals and 30 assists for the fifth straight season. He is also one goal shy of tying Keith Tkachuk for fifth in Blues history with 208.

They said it

"It's crazy when you think of it. I saw something that on Jan. 2 we were last in the NHL [standings] and look how we turned it around. But we've worked hard for it. Obviously, the beginning of the year wasn't great, but guys kept working. Things wouldn't go well, but guys kept working, kept working. … We could potentially win the division. It was very nerve-wracking at the start of the year." -- Blues center Ryan O'Reilly

"I would have said he's a No. 1 center regardless, but it's always nice to have your No. 1 center score 30 goals. I think there is more there. I think he's got the ability to do more than that." -- Rangers coach David Quinn on Zibanejad

Blues projected lineup

Brayden Schenn -- Ryan O'Reilly -- Vladimir Tarasenko

Jaden Schwartz -- Oskar Sundqvist -- David Perron

Pat Maroon -- Tyler Bozak -- Robert Thomas

Zach Sanford -- Ivan Barbashev -- Alexander Steen

Vince Dunn -- Alex Pietrangelo

Jay Bouwmeester -- Colton Parayko

Carl Gunnarsson -- Robert Bortuzzo

Jordan Binnington

Jake Allen

Scratched: Joel EdmundsonSammy BlaisRobby FabbriMichael Del ZottoMackenzie MacEachern

Injured: None

Rangers projected lineup

Chris Kreider -- Mika Zibanejad -- Pavel Buchnevich

Vladislav Namestnikov -- Filip Chytil -- Vinni Lettieri

Jimmy Vesey -- Lias Andersson -- Ryan Strome

Brendan Lemieux -- Brett Howden -- Boo Nieves

Brady Skjei -- Kevin Shattenkirk

Marc Staal -- Tony DeAngelo

Brendan Smith -- Neal Pionk

Alexandar Georgiev

Henrik Lundqvist

Scratched: Connor Brickley, John Gilmour, Fredrik Claesson

Injured: Jesper Fast (upper body), Libor Hajek (separated shoulder)

Status report

Kreider and Staal will return for the Rangers, replacing Gilmour and Claesson. Kreider missed the past three games with an undisclosed injury and Staal missed two in a row with a lower-body injury. Smith, who had been playing forward, will shift back to defense with the return of Kreider.

Stat pack

Brett Howden turns 21 on Friday.

Mika Zibanejad is one of only three centers in Rangers history to score 30 goals as a 25-year-old or younger (Mark Pavelich and Darren Turcotte).

Filip Chytil is expected to play in his 73rd game of the season on Friday night, matching Manny Malhotra for second-most in a season by a teenager in Rangers history. The only player with more games as a teenage Ranger is Michael Del Zotto (80 in 2009-10), who will play in his 609th career game on Friday night at the Garden, his eighth since being acquired by St. Louis.

Alexandar Georgiev is 6-3-2 with a 2.28 goals-against average and .925 save percentage this season at the Garden.

The Blues are 9-2-1 in their last 12 visits to the Garden. They are 11-3-3 on the road since Jan. 13.

Jordan Binnington is 12-0-1 with a 1.68 GAA, a .941 save percentage and two shutouts against the Eastern Conference. Binnington's next victory would be his 22nd of the season, tying Jake Allen (22 wins in 2-14-15) for the Blues rookie record.

Tyler Bozak is one point from 400 in his NHL career.

The fourth line of Sanford, Barbashev and Steen has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) and a combined plus-15 rating in the four games since it was put together.

Agreed on Lias. He’s been getting more ice time, but 36 games and one goal off your ass is not looking good.

You want to see progress and at the end of a game have some good positives to talk about, he doesn't give you much of either. The Rangers need this kid to figure it out. Or prove he has NHL talent.
