Well. I'm not the biggest Trouba guy but the return was reasonable to say the least. Gorton must know he can move at least one of Staal, Shattenkirk or Staal. My guess is Shattenkirk since they have 4 righties now and I don't think DeAngelo or Fox are sitting.

What a steal. Laughing that some wanted to move Lias, and others said no way you could get Trouba for a lesser cost. Best GM in hockey. No deal, so that is some risk, but low as I'm sure he'll re-sign in July.

Have to move a RD otherwise ADA will be the 7th dman. That seems doubtful. Can they move Shattenkirk and add Panarin? That would have them in solid playoff contention next season. And back as a top team in 2 seasons.

Gorton is the man.

So essentially the trade is

To Winnipeg: Kevin Hayes + Neal Pionk

To NYR: Brandon Lemiuex + Jacob Trouba

Yeah.... we won this one BIG TIME!

I'm hoping Buffalo will give us the St. Louis #31 pick for Shatty.

Skjei-Trouba

is solidified.... everything else is up in the air, but

Staal-Fox
Hajek-DeAngelo

is my guess

With Lindgren as the 7th swapping out for Staal and Hajek on the regular until they find a trade partner for Marc

After reading the Brooks article over the weekend, I was a little concerned to see what they were going to give up to get him....this seems like a pretty cheap acquisition to address a need. The main downside is going to be the amount of money that he's going to tie up for probably seven years...without knowing how well he'll fit into New York, so it's certainly not without risk, but still.

Winnipeg must have a kid in mind they want really bad in the draft. The Cheveldayoff watch is officially on. Trade one of your cornerstone defensemen for a bottom half first rounder and a lightweight. I cant believe Gorton pulled this off.

Trouba wanted out and the Jets might have had to give up players for cap room for 1 more year of Trouba and everybody knew it. The Jets were screwed.

Just think - even if the Rangers cannot get trade Hank, Shatt, Staal, Smith, they all come off after 2021 to the tune of $25 mill. cap space

Apparently competing teams started dropping out when they couldn't talk to him. That and like mentioned above Winnipeg in a cap crunch and the stars aligned for Gorton who is stacking up some nice trade wins, this one being one of his better.. Skjei and Trouba are apparently pretty tight. Pretty easy for Trouba to tell him where he wants to play. Gorton needs to sign him to wrap it up. I think it gets done real soon.

Well we're uniting him and Skjei who have been good friends since their time in the USA development program. Nieves was also a teammate of his in college....

But Skjei and Trouba should work well together

The Jets took Pionk? Neil Pionk? The guy who plays for the Rangers? Holy grand larceny, Batman! This trade is a WIN.

The JD Effect is starting already. If he can dump Shattenkirk and Fast before training camp while adding some toughness to the forward corps, I will be one happy fan when next season starts.

Brooks is an imbecile. He should have retired 10 years ago. He is clueless. His latest was there were no takers for Shattenkirk. I find that hard to believe. Especially if they are willing to retain salary.

I think this is a steal on paper.. Pionk and 20th pick for a solid NHL Dman... STEAL.. BUT .. the cost of having to resign him is in the 7 million range well north of 6 is what I have heard and read.. so the money is tough given that the Rangers have a lot in Shattenkirk skeji and Smith.. so look to buy out smith is my guess.. and lets not forget Staal too..

I also think York at the 20th pick will be a very solid player and will be as good as Trouba.. so the Rangers as much as it was a steal .. getting a young D man like York wouold have meant he would have matured with miller and fox and been 3 kids on the blue line.. but yes that is all IF he plays like he should... so I hope i am wrong and I hope he is great but my gut is long term this will hurt as York will be a guy the Rangers sign when he is 30..

but a steal for sure and he will fit in great and 25 is not that old.. I am hoping this is the sign that ****tenkirk is traded and smith too.

There was no chance the Rangers would have taken a defenseman at 20. They don't have room for the ones they have now. Skjei, Fox, DeAngelo, Hajek, Rykov, Lundqvist, Miller, Reaunen and Lindgren. That's 9 right there. Also the York to Trouba comparison is a bad one. York is another 5'11 defenseman. We have enough of those and don't need anymore. I think Trouba needs to improve his play in the playoffs. I've always stated he was overrated. Mainly because some make him out to be this elite defenseman. He's not. What he is, is something this team lacks. A big, righty, physical defenseman who can play effectively against top lines most of the time so at the trade cost, I'll take it. I'm not expecting him to save this team. I think he can contribute to a winning team and make life more difficult for the other teams best players.

A trade you cannot pass up. I was concerned when hearing Anderson , the other Swedish D prospect and #1 no being enough for this guy. He is good and a young upgrade but not convinced yet he is the stud top tier dman. Glad we have him but it feels awfully cheap and that has me on edge. Kind of like when a player takes the home town discount? Bizarre that Jets would not allow contact with the agent seems suicidal unless this kid is a 1/2 a prick!

The trade is great, but I agree now you are gonna have to pay him big & is he worth that $$$ & this is NY & Rangers NOT Loosepeg, the game is a 'little' different especially for d-man as we know? We will see, but 25 is a good age to take a chance.
