He has to win the starting job first....and I can guarantee you that is not on the FO to do list

I think they are a playoff contender right now if things go in their direction, but the issue is that comes with a huge if, that a decent % these young kids come out ready to go next season, and have staying power over 82 games. Being real I would say that is not likely. That is why I think we need to add one more asset upfront to truly be in that mix for the playoffs, and have full season staying power.

I don't think all of those players are gone, but a decent % will be if we are going to add that big player. If we are not then maybe we don't do much this week, or on July 1.

As for Hank, we'll see if his mindset changes if we are struggling again this season. For now no shot he is getting dealt. Maybe that changes if we have a rough season.

Hmm, this being June, hard to tell, if you ask me now, I say no, improvement from last year, but too many young faces & new faces that takes time. Right now I think they miss the playoffs. And, I am not sure this is a bad thing, I'll take another Top 10 pick for 1 more year. I'll let another year ago by for the future.

2019-20: Baby Rangers find their legs, begin to figure out who the core is, and who it is not. The miss the playoffs again, but not before trading away some veteran assets at the deadline to pick up another first round pick and some middle round picks. They use their own pick and the pick acquired to move into the top 10.

2020-21: Last year of 30's contract, Sheskterkin and Lundqvist split the workload. Bolstered by a young homegrown core that can score, Baby Rangers make the playoffs but exit in the first round. The team is largely set.

2021 offseason: following their playoff exit the Rangers figure out where they have to plug holes add a couple of key UFA additions, a second pair defenseman. Shesterkin has taken the reins but the Rangers bring Lundqvist back as a backup on a sentimental deal, 2 years $1.8m per.

2021-22: Stanley Cup, Canyon of Heroes, etc.

THN on Robertson: one of the safest picks, will take a few years, good skating, mobile, strong, long reach. Henriksson, small but smart, coach fav, digs for pucks. Jones, mobile, vision, good upside.

It's his to lose, not win. He's the starter until someone dethrones him....

Georgiev was good. As good? Debatable. Not better.

We'll see what Shesty brings...

But until someone else is clearly better.... Lundqvist is the guy.

And very capable of winning a Cup. Here.

The defense this team has been throwing out there since AV arrived wasn't really conducive to getting good goaltending and Hank is no longer the goalie he was. He can't handle being under siege every game. On a really good team, he could probably give you enough to win a Cup. The Rangers have no chance of being that team before his contract ends.

The absolute best thing for everyone is to move Lundqvist before the season. Especially if there is a taker which I'm not sure, there would be many. Any contender, that thinks Lundqvist is the solution, can play the cap game of which they won't have much, and will expect the Rangers to bend over to make the deal. ie: eating cap, reduced compensation. Lundqvists days of bringing a return trade booty are long gone. Moving him would correlate to moving any other overpaid, under performing soon to retire former great.

So, barring a trade or buyout, you'd rather he not be motivated. Ok, got it
