Signing him in the first place was a mistake....he sucks. we had all the warning signs too

He hurt his knee at the beginning of the first year and then made it worse by playing through the injury. There were plenty of other teams willing to pay more for Shatty. If he does not hurt his knee maybe we would have seen his real value. Last year was a complete mess on D and he looked like crap, but so did everybody. Clearly, with 20/20 hindsight and getting injured, he was not worth the money, but he did not injure himself on purpose.

The bigger problem in Shatt's first year was AV still having a job with the Rangers.

I hear ya but on the Caps he was benched in the playoffs and Trotz said NFG

Very true. But not all deadline trades work - Hayes did not work, and Zuc did, but got hurt. Now that Shatt is gone - we will see if Tony D can continue to play well and we will see what Fox can do.

I don't blame the Rangers for signing him. He was around 28 and coming off a season where he scored 13 goals and 56 assists. There was no indication whatsoever he was in decline. Just because he had an underwhelming playoff run on an underwhelming playoff team doesn't make that a portent of things to come. And on top of everything else, he took well below market value. The term gets thrown around too often, but he really did take the "hometown discount." No one could have seen that deal ending in a buyout. It sucks for everyone. And it wouldn't have been necessary if the Rangers didn't still have other truly horrid contracts in Staal and Smith. Frankly IMO they should've bought out Staal, but that's just me.

The injuries were a combination of bad luck and a garbage medical/training staff. They should have shut him down and put him on IR. I sure hope Vigneault had nothing to do with that decision.

If he stays healthy he'll do quite well in Tampa. Contrary to popular belief they don't play a fast-attack type of offense. Their very talented blueline corps is actually pretty slow, and Shattenkirk won't have to anchor their attack.

Oh no, Shatty is "pissed" that another team has seen what he can do and decided that he needs to go.

For his sake, I hope the seats in the Lightning press box are better than the ones at MSG, 'cause he's gonna spend lots of time there.
