If I recall correctly, Howden suffered an injury that kept him out of the lineup over 2 months. He was never the same afterwards.

Howden missed one month (February) and ironically he was better in March (7 points) than he was in Dec (1 assist) or January (1 assist).

I stand corrected...the conversion part of my brain was out -- don't know why I translated 3-4 weeks into 2 months.

All I know is if your defense of Andersson is he outplayed Howden, who hasn't been good, in a couple preseason games, you need a new angle. Andersson has shown nothing. No skill, no effort, nothing. I don't want a Ranger's pick to fail but he has. And his taking his ball and going home trick just cemented what a waste of a pick he was. I would rather they hold his rights for as long as possible to keep him from getting another chance than trade him for basically nothing, but that is his value. Let him play at home forever.

Over the past two seasons playing for the Rangers and Hartford, he has earned (I use that word lightly) over $700,000. I hope he is good with money, because he will never see that kind of money again. Good riddance.

Andersson by himself is going nowhere. Who would want him until he comes clean and tells the breathlessly waiting hockey world about his secrets of the Rangers, mishandling? Hurt his feelings? Or Ranger physical or mental abuse. Who’s going to want him until he comes clean and admits what has upset his entitled little ass. Most likely it’s centered around his wonderment he wasn’t handed a top two line job as a rookie. He’s put the Rangers in a position of the only thing coming back in a trade is another problem child. Unless it’s an overpriced player. To include him in a package with Georgiev and a Fast adds nothing and in fact decreases their value, because again who wants a guy that probably won’t even report to the AHL until he works through his feelings.

I think one can acknolwedge that it was a bad pick and that the prospect was also horribly mishandled.

I posted a link somewhere in this thread that showed what all the players in that draft had accomplished to date.....and it shows that a handful of players drafted after LA had done well, so the same can probably be said of anyone else we would have picked.

However, I am one of the few who do not believe he was mishandled.

Same here.

And all this season's mess has shown to me so far is that the root cause of all troubles with this kid starts and ends with his attitude.

I don't get the mishandled angle at all. If his defense for his zero impact is he never got to play with better players, Quinns defense would be he never showed he could. Personally I can't wait to hear his side of his secretive excuses.

Also worthy of note, LA accused the organisation and coaching staff of lack of communication and so on.

You've got to wonder then how is it that other members of the team praised DQ for handling young players etc. Lately for instance Ryan Strome (here https://nypost.com/2020/01/24/ryan-strome-on-islanders-rock-bottom-t... ).
I don't believe the Swedish kid at all.

LA has thrown hints to the press about not liking the situation, things that happened to him (bullying???), playing on bad feet, blah, blah, blah....yet he never stated specifically what was going on. The worst part of it is that JD has tried to contact him directly numerous times to find out exactly what happened (if anything). LA has been steadfast in his refusal to speak saying that everything should go through his agent.

He and JD have begun speaking again. Don't know to what extent, i.e., if specifically what his complaints were, etc, but I've seen several sources report they have opened up and spoken directly recently (LA and JD)

I'm sure Lias has some fault here but as usual, this board bends over and takes it up the azzz for every coach here as if they never screw up. Again, no cups in over 25 years. That with Hank in net. Quinn and his dickless wonder Ruff have done nothing to improve team defense since they have been here. Howden regressed. Andersson regressed. Buchnevich is useless. Chytil has improved a little but not much. Hajek regressed. Hire a college coach and you get what we are seeing now. sh!t. They should make the switch, fire Quinn and hire the Pack coach. If not for JD getting Panarin, this would easily be the worst team in the league.

Our opinions about Lias have nothing to do with the coach. Lias earned his demotions. He's shown nothing outside of a couple preseason games and he thought that was enough. Regressing implies he showed something and then got worse. He never showed anything. And if you can't see Chytil's improvement you're worse at this than I thought, and I didn't think much of you anyway.

In other news Lias has found a pair of skates with his chosen toe picks, and he is ready to resume his hockey career with HV71 in Sweden, after the Rangers tried to derail his hockey career by taking his toe picks away. Thank gawd J.D. got involved.

Yes, officially loaned back to HV17 Sweden. From what I've seen based on ability and skill, he will never amount to anything more than a 4th liner (despite what Dump says). One year left on his contract might mean he will be in training camp next season. There's even a chance he can be called back to play at the end of the season, but I would be very surprised.

What you see means nothing because like the rest of us, you aren't a hockey talent evauluator. I look at production. Lias wasn't productive this year. He just turned 21 a couple of months ago. Howden is 21 and is no better than Lias production wise. He just got more icetime because Quinn is stupid. Leattieri should be up and Howden should be in the AHL, working on draws, playing the PP and trying to figure out how to improve offensively against men. Lias has a game that has some similarty to Lemieux. Lemieux didn't even make the NHL full time until he was 22. Lemieux is a much better skater than Lias but Lias is a lot smarter in other areas of the game. Hopefully, Lias get gather himself and turn it around. Once again amazing the Russian ass kissing our fan base does. Buchnevich fn blows and almost never a word about him from our Russian lovers. Yet, players like Lias, Skjei, Pionk, Kreider, etc.... are always getting ripped.

If JD thought Lias was only a 4th line player, he would not have gone through all the trouble to keep him after this whole mess.

You're in for a very long wait. JD didn't patch things up because he wanted Gorton to deal him. He did so because he wants him to figure it out and be a part of the team.

He "patched" things up to try and increase his trade value.

Exactly. It's hard enough to get anything of value for a failed first round pick. Try getting something for a disgruntled one with an attitude problem that was drafted too high.

J.D. understands Andersson can only improve his self inflicted destroyed trade value, by getting him back on the ice. If he has some success over in Voster hedun hozen he might improve his trade value to a team that appreciates how a guy plays over there, after pretty much proving he can't play here.
