Hank

Hoping that Igor will replace him for the title as best

Tough to say because Richter played with so many crap teams because the organization was poorly run back then. Hank played a lot of his career when they started opening up the game again. Richter like Brodeur played much of it in the clutch and grab era where goals were harder to come buy. I'd go with Hank but it's close.

If the answer is based on pure stats it’s Lundqvist. But when you start to factor in playoff performances, big game clutch, and flat out won, the pendulum starts to swing towards Richter. The Rangers do not win the series against Jersey or probably don’t win the cup against Vancouver without Richter who’s performance was lost in the brilliance of Leetch and Messier that year. He also had a Canada Cup performance against Canada that was one in a million clutch fabulous goaltending.
Lundqvist had his chance against L.A. and IMO was pretty ordinary, although I would have bet on him if he had gotten another shot at a cup final.
I saw them both play start of career to finish and I’d take Richter. He was a battler and never quit, never showed up his teammates.

Nonsense. Look at Lundvist game 7's. He's better than Richter in the playoffs and it wasn't close. Lundkvist is one of the top 5 playoff goalies in history. Every single one of his teams in the playoffs sucked offensively. In 94 Richter played with one of the top 5 players off all time and maybe the best playoff player of all time in Messier. He played with a Hall of Fame defenseman in Leetch and was on one of the best offensive teams in hockey with a lethal PP. Lundkvist was not ordinary against LA. If your head wasn't up your ass you would have known he lost 2 games because of the dumb fukkkk refs to which the league apologized to the Rangers. Girardi was so hurt in that series he shouldn't have played and cost the Rangers multiple goals in that series. L.A. scored 4 or more goals in the playoffs that year for Quick 10 times. The Rangers scored 4 or more goals for Lundkvist that playoff year 1 time. The only reasons I say it was close are because I truly believe if Richter played on teams close to NJ he was a Hall of Famer. Also, every time he played on a team close to Brodeur's which was almost never, he always outplayed him. However, make no mistake, the Rangers don't even make the playoffs without Liundkvist. Forget about winning playoff games to which he stole so many I lost count.

Got to agree with Dump. Those last 3 games against the Pens in the 2014 conference finals, Hank was great. The only reason we didn't win the cup... Hockey Gods. Richter played behind a much better team in 94.

The 94 team was voted as 1 of the best ever by NHL. Hank's playoff #s, gga, etc... are great some on the best. The only reason(s) Rangers were in the playoffs & so successful is Hank all those years.

I couldn’t find much for lists of best ever playoff teams, the one I did had the 94 Rangers at 9 and the 2017 Penguins as best ever, so without digging to deep you can chuck that list. The article was also a lot more impressed with the Rangers actually winning than the roster. But it’s a subjective thing like this discussion.
I’m not devaluing Hanks performance or numbers, he had a great career. Including magic in some playoff series. So did Richter who played well in many playoff series also. I watched both as I said and wouldn’t have a problem with either in net, but would still take Richter. They don’t win that cup without him.

No one wins a Cup w/o good goaltending.
