We don't know where they'll play
We don't know when they'll play
We're not even certain they'll actually play

And they could technically still win a high lottery pick, though the chances are relatively low

At any rate, the Rangers will be in a best of 5 play-off series if the NHL does indeed manage to figure this out

I can't imagine what playoff hockey is going to look like after 3+ months of layoff, but I'm ready for something...

Playing in July. What is status of UFAs and RFAs? Technically, the UFAs are playing without a contract. Will playoff performance be a consideration in arbitration?

in a prefect world here's what happens........ I place $500 down on the Rangers to win the cup, Hanke beats out Shesty and Gorgy for the number one spot in an abbreviated camp, the Rangers sweep the Candy Canes in 5 before going on to win the cup..... I walk away with a cool $37,000 in my pocket and Hanke rides off into the sunset as a Stanley Cup Champion and MVP..... yes,,,, I can see that in my mind, can you?
but alas, it's not a perfect world, is it?

This is Crazy.. So they would then go directly into the next season?

In addition, good chance that neither Lemieux (suspension pending) or Kakko (concern over his risk to COVID19) won't be available for the series.

I read the same thing Toby, Lemieux for sure will miss 3 games at a minimum and although Kakko is working out and wants to play from what I read the Rangers are the ones that may be on the cautious side and keep him out.

i was sure I posted this question already:

Is it the diabetes or his other disease that puts KK in the "at risk" category for COVID?

This is great..... The lengths at which Brind"Amour was willing to go to avoid the Rangers in a 5 game series.....

"the Hurricanes had their own “Carolina plan” for the playoffs. One suggestion proposed that instead of a play-in round, the league would weigh the 12 teams in each conference by the percentage chance they had to make the final 16. Each team would then play three games to calculate the “final” regular-season standings"

But this one is the most absurd thing I have ever read...

"The second suggestion was to force the Rangers to win four of the five games. Under that scenario, if the Hurricanes won twice, the series would be over and Carolina would automatically advance"

Really?

It's embarrassing how the Candy Canes wanted to avoid the Rangers. They telegraphed it to the league and all the fans. The more they whine the worse it gets.

I agree....just on a financial level, it's ludicrous. I've felt all along that this is a money grab.. You're not going to tell me that finding a hub, providing housing, daily necessities, transportation, security, etc., is not going to cost a bundle...add the cost of the extra medical staff that will be needed to conduct and analyze the daily tests could very well cost enough to cancel out any money the league MIGHT recoup.

The other thing that concerns me is this: They've been preaching social distancing as one of the best precautions against spreading the virus -- even among healthy people. Yet, they want 24 teams of professional athletes to go back to work and do the exact opposite!! Makes absolutely no sense to me.

and then there's this, The Rangers could lose a huge tax break.

"As there will be no gate/concessions/parking revenue accruing to the home team in these projected play-ins and playoffs at still undetermined sites, it is unclear whether the applicable portions of the 1982 law that prohibits the Rangers and Knicks from playing home games elsewhere while granting MSG exemption from paying property taxes would be in force.

The law reads, “If one or both of said teams [Rangers and Knicks] shall cease to play their home games in said property at any time, the tax exemption provided herein shall cease immediately and said property shall immediately be restored to the tax rolls.”

If the law does apply and the Rangers must be designated as the road team for all games at their hub city, the NHL would be faced with a quandary.

Oh, don't even get me started on the social distancing, & the virus hypocracy that you & I have to obey, loose income, businesses, jobs, can't even go to a park ... but hundreds & thousands can do as they want in packs. And, multi millionaire athletes complaining about taking pay cuts.

its settled, The NHLPA pushed for and won, a best of 7 series should the playoffs happen and teams will be reseeded after each round. NHL teams will be permitted to open their facilities to small group workouts on June 8 but it does not appear that training camps would open until the second week of July. In that case, the qualifying round would likely begin in early August.

Not all bad news .....

https://nypost.com/2020/06/04/nhl-turning-back-the-clock-with-rework...

The Islanders will be ready to go on Monday while it may take the Rangers an extra day to open their practice facility to its players for the NHL’s voluntary, small group, Phase 2 workouts. The Rangers may need more time to conform with the testing regimen. If so, and that’s the way it appears, they would open their building on Tuesday. Only a handful of Rangers — Chris Kreider, Marc Staal, Brendan Smith, Adam Fox and Brendan Lemieux, who just recently returned — are currently in the area.

The league and union need to reach an accord on health and safety protocols for training camp and the tournament as well as on CBA-related issues before a schedule can be adopted.
