Because of the lucky #1 draft pull of Lafreniere, the Rangers should be in the hunt for the Stanley Cup now. But, because of the stupid cap rules, they will waste another prime year of their top guys.

Hank, Staal and Smith should be bought out. But, because of the cap, they have to try and work some kind of financial moves that have nothing to do with winning the SC and limit the Ranger's ability to really compete for the SC this year.

Subtraction of the above 3 and the addition of below.
Georgiev/Shesty is a strong G tandem
Keep Tony D, add 2 defensive D types or somebody from the farm
Keep Strome, he figured out how to play with Panarin
If nobody steps up for the 3rd line C, add a 3rd line center
Rangers have tons of assets/picks and this is all doable but for the cap.

It is amazing how the bottom feeders and cheapo teams of the NHL drove this bs into the CBA at the expense of the teams that drive the revenue for the NHL. I am sure this year's conference finals are really drawing great ratings.

Under no circumstances do you keep Strome. He is below average on faceoffs. He is not a good skater. He has no physical element to his game. He will not be worth the money. If Lundkvist was coming over this year I would dump TDA in a second to deal for a second line center. That being said, if Gorton signs him it better be to a good contract with no NTC or NMC's attached so he can trade him the following year.

Strome has 92 points in 133 games as a Ranger, 36 goals total only 7 on the power play. More importantly has great cohesion and can play with the teams offensive driver Panarin. Not everybody can. He is a important piece and should be kept at the right price.

Panarin and Strome were pretty good considering they were carrying Fast who was a waste of a pass.
