3 years $2 mill per. Not much more than he was making here. For all the horn blowing about him by the brass, they obviously felt they didn’t need or want him. $2 mill per is very affordable for a third line guy. But goodbye Albert, happy I won’t have to listen to Sam gush every time you step on the ice.

Rumors were that he wanted $3M per year for 3 years from the Rangers

I guess he got the new NHL offer. I believe he was $1,850,000 per and yet signed in Carolina for $2 mill. Read a article wondering why he and the Rangers couldn’t have compromised at $2 mill. Suggested there had to be other factor or factors involved. Or maybe the Rangers didn’t want him back. For the small $$ difference makes one wonder why he got away based on all the positive coaching and management comments over the years.

If we don’t make a move for a legitimate 2nd line center & sign all our RFAs worth it (3 or 4) this early, I repeat, early free agency has been a fail. Draft not included.

So many assets and luxuries that we will never use. Many attractive prospects we can move.

Wrong. We have improved. We just added the #1 prospect in the world. They are going to stay the course and play the kids. Kakko, Chytil, Gauthier, Howden, Lindgren, Hajek (all 22 or younger) are going to continue to improve. Add Shesterkin and Georgiev, who I believe are improvements over Lundqvist. Add the youth on the cusp, K'Andre, Barron, Kravtsov. They are not a Cup contender... YET.

Now is not the time to make any big moves. $9 million in buyout money comes off the cap next season. Add Smith's $4 million. We will have 6 RFA's, with only Buchnevich with arbitiration rights, and no big $ UFA's. STAY THE COURSE.

Exactly, stay the course, what's coming is guys coming off entry level contracts, to be paid and Zib looking for a big payday. Rangers are going to be building from within promoting to replace young guys that fall by the wayside.

Another fan favorite (undersized but he "tried hard" leaves. Rangers fans always love the little engine that could (or could not for very long). Fans will wax poetic about his hustle and his hockey smarts and his nifty chips off the boards to clear the zone. Sorry, Sam and Joe will have to find their erections elsewhere.

Bottom line, on a team that lacks muscle and physical play up front, you can't afford to carry a third liner who gets rag-dolled every game and gets blowed-up by the likes of Brady Skjei during the playoffs. Penalty killers and 3rd line role players who chip in 10 to 14 goals a season can be REPLACED for $2M per year. Hopefully with a player who adds some nasty and knocks opponents down instead of cleaning the ice with his ass.

Also, the nickname was annoying. So ...... bye.

Unfortunately there are very few players left that play the way you and I like PV29.Matt Martin and Abdelkator are just about the only 2 left on the market. And addingeven Martin who I'd love to addonly makes a slight difference if there is no one else added to play that way.The Rangers are just about the only team I've ever seen go through a rebuild and not add a nice mix of muckers and grinders.

Agreed. Martin is probably too expensive at this point in his career.

Brendan Lemiuex has intrigued me since he became a Ranger, but I'm afraid he will end up being a disappointment. He hasn't been able to consistently provide the type of game that the Rangers need because he hasn't been able to stay in the lineup consistently. His game is wildly inconsistent and his apparent relationship with NHL refs doesn't help.

Other teams use lower draft picks to stock up on hard-nosed wingers who realize that their only chance to play in the NHL is to knock people around. The Rangers have historically used those picks to take undersized finesse players in the hopes of getting a diamond in the rough. It's failed miserably. I'm hoping that JD is changing this somewhat. This year they took some big kids in the lower rounds.

Lemieux is one step in the right direction especially since he has some talent and skill. But he needs some help. Especially up front on the bottom two lines but on defence as well. Which makes the lack of sack jack signing so puzzling.

I am happy the Rangers did not sign Fast. This is one less crutch for Quinn to lean on. Yeah, Fast hustled and busted his ass, but at 175 pounds he was regularly knocked to the ice. His offense was weak even when playing with Panarin. He never should have been a regular top 6. For the Rangers this was not about the money. This is about some young guys having to step up and fill a slot. They certainly have enough young guys. Maybe they think Howden or Barron can do what Fast did for less money and less time on his ass.

Maybe Barron can.Unless Howden puts on weight and adds strength there were too many times last year when he was knocked on his ass,

Third year for lots of young players is the decider. Howden has it to do. He really hasn’t given much of a indication of who he is as a player. Very important he establishes himself and identifys his future role. If he has one, and that’s how important this season is for himself.

He will be exposed there.I am surprised that Chewy didn't take him to Philly.

We traded a guy who played on the first line. (he never should be playing there but our coach is blind)

The little energizer that accomplished very little.
