I would hope if the Rangers are thinking a fourth line of Gauthier, Howden and Rooney that they fish around for a guy that can fill Haley’s role and play. Gauthier with his skill package probably has the higher upside than Howden, who unless he makes a early season statement that he can play on the top three lines won’t be around long, with his style of game on the fourth line. Neither will Gauthier unless he starts putting a few in and play the power game everyone has been watching and waiting for. | ||

Posts: 798 | What he hell are you talking about? You act like Gauthier has played 2 or 3 NHL seasons and people are waiting for him to score. He's played 17 career NHL games. Most of them with guys that can't do crap offensively. The butthole that needs to break out is Howden. A guy who continually gets ice time he doesn't deserve from our thickhead coach. You're outta your mind if you don't think Howden will be around long unless he's claimed in the expansion draft. Quinn bends over for that guy. His game is perfectly suited for the 4th line which is where he should be. He could be a plus faceoff guy. A plus defensive player. He kills penalties. Offensive expectations on the 4th line won't be much. He has good size. He's what you want on your 4th line. | ||

If Howden and Gauthier both don't produce solid two way play and chip in a few, neither will likely be around by Christmas. The Ranger can and should make the playoffs but have to have a productive fourth line. Guys that are struggling and not doing the job won't be around. This isn't mighty mites level hockey where your personal game peaked, coaches don't have favorites. Try to keep it real. | ||
