Wasn’t quite a sheet kicking, but the Caps made it look pretty easy.

Georgiev needs some time at the Allaire School of Goaltending as the Rangers get their doors blown off. That sucked.

It was 1-0 up until the mid-point, with the Rangers holding a pretty solid shot advantage (something like 13-6 or so)...but it fell apart when they gave up that second goal, and then quickly the third. At that point the Rangers really struggled to get back to what they were doing well in the first half.

Gallant defended Georgiev, but he was clearly not comfortable out there, fighting the puck and sliding all over the crease. Several players regressed in the second too...Fox and Panarin who looked good early on faded, Hunt played himself off the third, and most of the shots seemed to be coming from the Chytil line. If they struggle again tomorrow, I think there's going to be some nervous fans hunting for blood....hopefully they'll rebound like they did last year with a more solid effort in game 2.

Tough road game tonight …. They’ll score 8 goals against another team.

But yeah, I agree with girlfriend, where’s the system tonight?

Gallant doesn't strike me as a strong system guy...just basic hockey

His system is play hard and have fun… or so that’s what I’ve heard!

Didn't like much about this game except Blais who will be moving up the lineup real soon. I think Kakko is not free to play his game when he is with Panarin, biggest problem being they both like and need the puck a lot to be effective. And I think there is some self induced pressure on Kakko playing with Panarin. You could see him wilt after Panarin fed him the one timer in the slot. They were together numerous games last season and it just didn't click. Blais is perfect for Strome and Panarin crash the net making room for those two. I'd like to see Gallant try a kid line with Kakko, Lafreniere and Chytil and give it 15 games. I think they would take off. That leaves Kreider, Zibanejad, Panarin, Strome, Blais, and Goodrow, and possibly Kravstov to fill out the other two lines creating some pretty good balance. Assuming Kravstov's ship hasn't sailed.

I was under the impression that he was a product of the "Allaire School of Goaltending".

Exactly, that's why he needs some time back in school.

or -
to build on this - Panarin Chytil (who?), Krieder Strome Kakko, Laf Zib (who?)
Can any of these 4 fill in the 2 right wing slots?
Blais, Goodrow, Gauthier, Krav?

The problem is Zibanejad. He's a stubborn jackass that refuses to play north-south hockey which makes him hard to play with. At this point I'd go with this. Kreider has lost more than a step. Gauthier makes him look slow. I'd start letting Lafreniere take faceoffs because Strome sucks and he's getting worse. Yet, Strome has a better chance of meshing with Lafreniere. Zibanejad's head is just too thick to change his ways. Kreider is at a point in his career where he needs to be moved to a defensive role at even strength.

Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko
Lafreniere-Strome-Gauthier
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Blais-Rooney-Reeves

If Barron was up I'd go with this. Strome is an unacceptable liability in the faceoff circle. Chytil and Lafreniere were developing some chemistry last year.

Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Strome
Kreider-Barron-Goodrow
Blais-Rooney-Reeves

or

Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Strome
Kreider-Goodrow-Blais
Rooney-Barron-Reeves
