Gallant called out lafrenieres poor performance and season after the game. About time someone said something about how bad he's been

Lafreniere needs a real center. Chytil ain’t it. Zibanejad seems to be able to play only with Kreider and Panerin seems to be able to play with only Strome

Lafreniere was supposed to be a notch below McDavid. He’s got a long long way to go. As nice as it would be to have a center feeding him he’s still got to get to where he can drive a line. He’s getting to a point where he is going to have to earn first or second line duty by proving himself with Chytil or even Rooney if he doesn’t pick it up. He was advertised as a gritty guy who competed physically, I haven’t seen that since he got here. My grandmother could have scored the goal he did against Montreal. It’s getting hard to watch him without wondering how oversold and draft hyped this guy might have been.

I think he sucks. He's slow indecisive and does nothing well. Kakko even looks better and I don't think he's very good either.

These guys would mean 4 Jeff Gorton top ten busts. Not good. Glad he was fired. I'm not impressed with his body of work. He dumbed himself into fox.

The better answer for most of these guys would be playing 20-50 games in the AHL. It is very rare for an 18 year old to have the physical and mental strength to be successful in the NHL. Miller could have used some time in the AHL , but covid effed up last year. Lundqvist should be in the AHL for 20-30 games also. Kakko and Lafrenier were not bringing much to the table in their first seasons and Kakko was still lost offensively last year.
I am not ready to throw Gorton under the bus.
Kakko and Lafreniere were basically the only choice that could be made in those slots.
2017
Lias Andersson at 7 was a reach - bad pick
Chytil at 21 seems to be ok - but he is still flashing up and down - injury last year was a bummer - will probably figure it out on his next team
2018
Kravtsov at 9 seems to be another shaky pick - seems to have hockey talent - could also figure it out on the next team
Miller at 22 is a solid pick
Lundqvist at 28 seems to be a solid pick
2019
Kakko seems to be figuring it out - but was too young for the NHL in his first year - offensive upside seems lower than expected
2020
Lafreniere - same as Kakko - showing more offensive upside than Kakko

I get 3 good 1st rnd picks (everybody would pick Kakko and Laf) and 2 bad first rnd picks.

You're a moron if you think Lafreniere sucks. He's 20. He doesn't get first PP unit time. The fact that Strome does over Kakko and Lafreniere is a joke. While Kreider is a great guy in front. You never are going to have an elite PP when you use Kreider and Strome on the first PP unit over Lafreniere and Kakko. Strome and Kreider are the past. Kakko and Lafeniere are the future. It's time to put them on the big stage. I woud make the first line Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kakko. Tell Zibanejad figure it out because it's your line for the next 5 years. My first PP unit would be

Panerin-Lafeniere-Kakko
Zibanejad-Fox

Strome and Kreider need to be demoted. They simply aren't elite talents. Zibanejad doesn't win enough faceoffs to give a crap about centering the PP.

Lafreniere doesn’t get first powerplay time because he doesn’t deserve it. Neither does Kakko. You don’t reward uninvested play with first unit power play time that’s just stupid. You earn it. Lafreniere if he doesn’t get his act together and start investing a whole lot more effort in his game, just might end up on the third line. Kakko had a pretty good start to his season and shouldn’t be judged til he gets back in the lineup and plays some games.

Neither Lafreniere or Kakko player does anything elite. You draft a guy #1 or #2 they need to be elite. Where are the players that dominated wjc? They look lost out there in the nhl. Miller does not look great either, I think he gets more credit than deserved because his play I think is shaky. Lundkvist needs to be in the ahl.

I would send Lafreniere to the ahl if his poor play continues. Trade kravtsov in a deal for Kessel to fill the slot for the rest of the season.

The thing I see with Lafreniere is even last season he seemed physically mature for his age, and I wondered how much more physical maturing he had left in him as far as getting bigger, faster, stronger. And after seeing him this year the answer was not much. How many 20 year old players get lighter? Look at the physical transformation of Kappo this year bigger stronger. Chytil puffed up also since drafted. Most all players still have to mature, Lafreniere might be one of those very few guys that’s done growing before he gets in the league, and there won’t be any more physical improvement, and he is size, weight wise what he’s going to be. And he could have used a bit of a spurt since being drafted.
