The Rangers could have as much as the equivalent of $31M of cap space (because of pro-rating) by the deadline. I posted a poll on the main page, but wanted to also see what your thoughts might be in terms of what you think would be the best bet:

Nothing - stand pat, maybe a minor league trade or two
Depth additions - add some cheap guys who can fill in for injuries, provide some more depth in some key positions
Couple of significant additions - a top 6 winger, or maybe two forwards, or maybe a defenseman
All-in - Go for it and look to try and win in this year

How did you come up with that number?

If I start the season with $1M of cap space...and I keep that for the entirety of the season, it works out to be about the equivalent of a player with $5-6M of contract value by the deadline.

Put another way, a player with around a $5M contract is due less than a $1M by the time the deadline rolls round. He's still got a $5M contract, but his impact to the yearly cap number would be just $1M at that point.

In the case of the Rangers, Capfriendly does the calculation for you, and they're projecting $31.3M of contract value in terms of space.

Good thing I am not a GM... I'd spend about $20M on drugs and the rest on hookers
