Could be going that way, per Brooks

The Post has been told that a buyout of the final two years of Patrik Nemeth’s contract is becoming more likely as the time nears. Nemeth is scheduled to carry a $2.5 million cap hit for the next two seasons under the deal the 30-year-old Swede signed as a free agent last summer.

PATRIK NEMETH BUYOUT RESULTS
A Patrik Nemeth buyout spans 4 years, has a cost of $4,000,000 and savings of $2,000,000. Nemeth is 30 years of age at the time of the buyout; therefore, the buyout ratio is 2/3. With $6,000,000 in salary remaining, the cost is $4,000,000, and the savings are $2,000,000. Buyouts span twice the length of the remaining years and because there are 2 years remaining in the contract, the buyout length is 4 years. The buyout cap hit is displayed in the Cap Hit Calculations table below.

Not Drury’s best move signing him to begin with. Hopefully there is a desperate team out there will trade a minor league guy for him, or a bag of pucks.

I said the moment he was signed that it was a mistake. Dude was only marginally good his first two years as a third pairing NHL defenseman, but he's been an outright disaster the last couple seasons. No idea what the Rangers scouts saw as he got turned inside out regularly in the playoffs against STL and VGK.

With the picks acquired in the Georgiev trade Drury might be able to use a second pick to move down and dump Nemeths contract off on a Arizona or Chicago. And eliminate a cap hit.

Can always dream.

The Rangers have not placed Nemeth on unconditional waivers so are not planning to buy him out. Therefore he'll either remain, or potentially could be traded

He'll be traded. If the Rangers don't get Kadri and they instead opt for Patrick Kane, Nemo will be one of the contracts going the other way.

Sounds like Kane (and Toews) are staying put for the moment

I dunno, depends on how many players you carry...but think it's probably closer to $3M

Cap space is tighter than a clam's ass. Yeah, $5.5 million, but for only 17 players. It doesn't even include Blais' $1.5 million. That leaves about $4 mil for Kakko and others.

Speaking of the cap, Tampa keeps handing out big contracts. Not sure how they can work it out. I guess Point will sit the year on LTIR and come back in the playoffs. CIRCUMVENTION

As for Nemeth, a costly mistake for Drury.
