Friday - February 24th
So it appears the Rangers and Blackhawks are heading to a trade for Kane. Given the most likely path to freeing up money, we should see Jake Leschyshyn on waivers today, which would allow for a trade on March 3rd.
Multiple reports suggest that the Blackhawks have come down on their asking price, with Kane said to have pushed hard for a move to New York.

Mark Messier sees his number retired |
Mark Messier is credited by many as the most influential person in the Rangers ending their Cup drought. Joining the Rangers at the age of 31 with five Cups to his name, there was some question as to whether he had anything more left. Messier proved that he very much did, establishing his will on the team as he drove them to the team's fourth Cup win, and first in 54 years in 1994.
Along the way, Messier earned the moniker as 'The Captain' and a place in the heart of many Rangers fans for his feats, including 'The Guarantee' when he forecast that the Rangers would return from New Jersey after the team fell down 3-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals. True to his word, Messier scored three goals and brought the team back to New York where Stephane Matteau would win the game in double overtime to send the Rangers to the finals.
Messier would leave the Rangers for Vancouver after the 1997 playoffs, but would return for a second stint to close out his career following the unsuccessful 2003-04 season. |
